Overview

County Extension Director

Posting Details: NC Cooperative Extension (EPS) – Brunswick County, Bolivia, NC. This position is full-time, 12-month recurring, FTE 1.00. The County Extension Director (CED) serves as the county Extension administrative leader and is responsible for providing leadership and coordinating the Brunswick County Extension staff to develop an effective total county Extension educational program.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise all Extension personnel, provide staff development, performance evaluations, and align work responsibilities for agents and staff in the county office.
  • Organize and allocate resources; market Extension programs; prepare budgets; maintain administrative relationships; interpret and communicate policies.
  • Teach, evaluate, and report on the assigned county; travel within the county to oversee programs and occasional district/state travel.
  • Serve as the county Extension administrative leader; exercise leadership for a comprehensive Extension program to meet county needs; maintain an affirmative action plan; manage an advisory leadership system representative of the program of work.
  • Coordinate resource development for all program areas, including fiscal responsibility for the county and state-allocated funds; market Extension programs and their impacts.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Minimum experience/education: The major responsibility is leadership for the county Extension staff and development of an effective county Extension education program. Requirements include either: (i) a Master’s degree in a related field and at least 3 years of Cooperative Extension or similar experience; or (ii) a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least 10 years of Cooperative Extension or similar experience. If applying with a Bachelor’s degree and less than 10 years of experience, active enrollment in a graduate degree program with degree completion within one year of hire is required. Administrative and supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
  • Department-required skills: Demonstrated leadership in Extension programming and management; supervisory experience; skills in human relations; ability to negotiate; public relations; team building; managing public policy issues; securing and managing outside funding and resources for innovative programming.
  • Preferred: experience in leadership and management; expertise in delivering educational programs in one of the NC Cooperative Extension focus areas.
  • Licenses: Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation; NC driver’s license required within 60 days of hire and maintained.
Work Schedule & Travel
  • Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–5:00 pm with evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Travel within the county to oversee programs; occasional travel within the district and state.
Supervision

Direct supervision of approximately 12 permanent employees; supervision time allocation approximately 50%.
