Jobbeschreibung
The Role

As an atmospheric scientist, you will have the opportunity to join us in our mission of providing the most precise data regarding emissions measurement. We are searching for someone with the expertise and ambition to interpret atmospheric satellite data, develop and improve atmospheric models and retrieval algorithms, and to push AIRMO towards our goal.

We are looking for an ambitious, highly motivated, and result driven scientist with a PhD in atmospheric sciences physics or a similar degree, experience in the interpretation of atmospheric (e.g. satellite, aircraft, …) observations using transport models, and good data analytics and computer programming skills. Experience with flux inversions is considered an asset.

Your responsibilities in AIRMO

You will be a trailblazer on our team, improving the interpretation of micro-LIDAR based instrument and other satellite data. Together, we will develop new methods to detect and identify sources, quantify emissions of various trace gases, and boost the accuracy of satellite data. Not only that, but you\'ll also have the opportunity to develop innovative solutions to measure and monitor climate change and share your findings with other stakeholders and present at conferences and meetings.

Your tasks will include but are not limited to:

  • Analyse satellite data to identify climate trends and anomalies. This includes collecting and processing data from various remote sensing platforms
  • Develop algorithms and models to better understand and predict weather and climate events. This includes understanding the physics and dynamics of various processes such as cloud formation, air-sea interactions, and land-atmosphere feedbacks
  • Developing methods and algorithms to analyse satellite data to monitor climate change and identify sources of greenhouse gas emissions
  • Work hand in hand with our CEO and CTO to define the emission monitoring service
  • Coordinate and accelerate the development of important payload functions
What you should bring to AIRMO

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Degree in atmospheric sciences or a related field
  • Very good knowledge in at least one of the following areas: satellite remote sensing, radiative transfer, inversion theory, numerical modelling of complex systems
  • Very good programming skills in at least one high level programming language (ideally Python) and good knowledge of Linux (including shell scripting)
  • A strong interest to work in the field of satellite remote sensing of the atmosphere
  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic and fast-pacing environment
  • Excellent communication skills and decisive decision-making skills
  • Team leadership skills
Requirements

The minimum requirements for applicants include:

  • Degree in Physics or similar
  • 3 - 5 years of relevant engineering experience
  • Strong fundamental understanding of atmospheric modelling
  • Fluency in spoken and written English
  • Enthusiasm to learn about the NewSpace or Climate tech
