Your Responsibilities:

In the context of the Collaborative Research Center SFB 1436 “Neuronal Resources of Cognition”(www.sfb1436.de ), we invite applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in the central project Z03. Z03 constitutes a core component of the CRC and has established a deeply phenotyped Aging and SuperAging cohort over the past four years. Within this cohort of cognitively healthy older adults, the project aims to elucidate the molecular, functional, and structural foundations of successful cognitive aging.

The successful candidate will focus on the analysis of longitudinal, multimodal brain data to characterize mechanisms of brain resilience, reserve, and maintenance. Using advanced multivariate neuroimaging methods, the Postdoctoral Researcher will investigate the interplay between brain pathology, brain structure, connectivity, cognitive performance, and additional biological markers. The position will be supervised by Dr. Anne Maass (DZNE/OvGU) and Emrah Düzel (FME/DZNE). An interest in developing novel analytic methodologies is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Processing and quality control of multimodal longitudinal data, including cognitive assessments, structural MRI, fMRI, DTI, QSM, vascular imaging (ASL), and PET
  • Longitudinal multimodal data analysis with a focus on mechanisms of brain maintenance, resilience, and successful aging
  • Development and implementation of innovative image processing and analysis pipelines
  • Data and project management within the Z03 infrastructure
  • Data sharing, coordination, and communication with subprojects across CRC 1436
  • Presentation of research findings at national and international conferences and scientific meetings
  • Engagement in scientific collaborations with internal and external research partners

Required and Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated expertise in methodological development (e.g., model‑building, advanced data analysis)
  • Proficiency in programming and statistical analysis (e.g., MATLAB, R, Python)
  • Experience with human brain imaging (e.g., PET, MRI) and established image analysis toolkits (e.g., SPM, FreeSurfer, FSL)
  • Experience with modelling approaches is highly desirable, particularly in multivariate, multimodal, or longitudinal data analysis
  • Strong communication and team collaboration skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Solid project management abilities
  • Independent, structured working style and high motivation

This PostDoc provides exceptional scientific and structural advantages:

  • Excellent neuroimaging facility with access to PET-MRI, 7T high-field MRI and 3T MRI
  • Work on a research and clinical campus with good infrastructure in close proximity to the
  • different institutes and departments (DZNE, University Hospital Departments, Leibniz Institute, OvGU Biology Institute, etc.)
  • Various possibilities for collaborations with other groups as part of the SFB, other DZNE sites and labs abroad (e.g. US, Canada and Europe)
  • Flexible working hours and the opportunity to reconcile work and family
  • Possibility to attend local seminars and guest lectures as well as national and international
  • conferences and workshops
  • Possibility to work on large multimodal longitudinal data set in a SuperAger cohort

The position is to be filled as of 01.04.2026, full‑time, and is limited until 31.12.2028.

Compensation: You will receive performance-based compensation according to responsibility and your personal qualifications, up to pay group E13 under the collective agreement for the public service of the federal states (TV‑L).

For any inquiries, Annee Maass can be reached via email.
