At Boston Scientific, we’ll give you the opportunity to harness all that’s within you by working in teams of diverse and high-performing employees, tackling some of the most important health industry challenges. With access to the latest tools, information and training, we’ll help you in advancing your skills and career. Here, you’ll be supported in progressing – whatever your ambitions.

About the role

The R&D Cables Engineer II plays a key role in defining, designing, and testing cable and harness systems for EP ablation medical devices. As part of the EP electrical hardware team in Montreal, you will contribute to the development of first-of-a-kind, life-changing technologies by leading the design, validation, and integration of high‑voltage therapy, communication, and sensor cable assemblies. You’ll own meaningful portions of the design, collaborate closely with an experienced multidisciplinary team, and grow both technically and professionally in a dynamic, innovative environment.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Design, develop, and test cable assemblies and harness systems using current tools, analysis techniques, and industry best practices.
  • Design sterile cables for medical device products (i.e., 10× sterilized) while maintaining functionality and dielectric strength.
  • Solve engineering problems by analyzing design challenges and recommending corrective or alternative actions.
  • Select appropriate cables, connectors, components, and materials considering mechanical, electrical, and regulatory requirements. Create detailed documentation, including wiring diagrams, schematics, procedures, reports, and change requests.
  • Manage development efforts by maintaining design records in Jira and other approved tracking tools.
  • Communicate clearly with stakeholders during key technical updates to facilitate effective decision‑making.
  • Communicate priorities, requirements and design constraints to cable suppliers.
  • Identify and develop novel improvements to cable and harness systems, contributing to Boston Scientific's Intellectual Property portfolio.
  • Collaborate with process development, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical, and marketing teams to ensure project success.
  • Provide direction to technicians and junior engineers, including training and mentoring.
  • Demonstrate commitment to patient safety and product quality by maintaining compliance with documented quality processes and procedures.
  • Create advanced CAD models of parts, assemblies and equipment using SolidWorks tools and SolidWorks Electrical, following internal Global Boston Scientific Corporation CAD standards and templates.
  • Use CAD Database Management tool to track drawings, parts, assemblies’ revisions and properties.
  • Develop new concepts from initial design to market release.
  • Direct support personnel and coordinat[ed] project activities.
  • Maintain detailed documentation throughout all phases of research and development.
  • Willingness and desire to understand the constraints of working in a highly regulated industry, including successfully completing trainings required by regulating bodies.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of relevant product development experience within a regulated sector.
  • Strong understanding of cable and harness design, including selection of materials and components.
  • Experience with cable routing, shielding, strain relief, and EMI/EMC best practices.
  • Proficiency in creating detailed schematics and documentation for cable systems using design tools such as Altium, AutoCAD, SolidWorks or similar.
  • Solid lab experience, including assembly, testing of cable and harness systems.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to conduct root cause analysis.
  • Familiarity with industry standards for medical devices and electronic systems.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership related to product and process design.
  • Ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on technical inputs from multiple and varied sources.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in the design of cable assemblies for medical devices.
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards related to medical electronic systems.
  • Knowledge of international standards (ISO) that dictate the design requirements of electrical systems.
  • Experience with automated test systems and data analysis tools such as LabView, MATLAB, or Python.
  • Experience working cross‑functionally with diverse teams to meet project timelines.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes for cable and harness assembly, including validation and verification procedures.
  • Experience using SolidWorks Electrical 2D schematic and 3D routing.
  • Experience in sterilization and material compatibility of single‑use device products for medical devices.
  • Completion of formal training such as Lean Design Six Sigma (LDSS) or Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
