  • Align practices with standards from the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS).
  • Adhere to Workers’ Compensation Boards (WCB) (e.g., WSIB in Ontario, WCB Alberta, WorkSafeBC) and privacy laws such as PIPEDA and provincial health information protection acts (e.g., PHIPA in Ontario).
  • Prepare for and support audits, inspections, and compliance reviews by regulatory bodies.
3. Workplace Health, Safety, and Prevention

  • Support compliance with violence and harassment legislation (e.g., Bill 168 in Ontario).
  • Oversee immunization programs (e.g., influenza, COVID-19), ergonomic assessments, and wellness programs.
4. Workers’ Compensation & Disability Management

  • Participate in pandemic and emergency preparedness planning.
6. Education, Training & Communication
  • Educate employees and management on relevant health topics, including WHMIS, communicable disease protocols, and occupational exposure risks.
  • Deliver training sessions on first aid, health promotion, mental wellness, and early symptom reporting.
7. Surveillance & Reporting
  • Monitor trends in absenteeism, occupational illness, and injury.
  • Analyze health surveillance data (e.g., audiometric testing, spirometry) and make recommendations for risk mitigation.
  • Report to leadership on health indicators and outcomes to inform prevention strategies.
Qualifications:
  • Medical degree (MD or equivalent) with licensure from a provincial College of Physicians and Surgeons.
  • Certification in Occupational Medicine or relevant experience in occupational health, minimum 5-7 years' experience.
  • Familiarity with Canadian health and safety laws and workers’ compensation systems.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
