Vancouver, BC, Canada (flexible on locations across western Canada)

The Opportunity:

You will be part of the risk assessment team which is part of the dynamic multi-disciplinary Environmental Management team in BC and Yukon, that supports our diverse clients with their investigation, remediation and risk assessment needs. You will be joining one of the largest risk assessment and toxicologist teams in the BC and Yukon region. Our team has over 20 staff that practice in a range of areas including, but not limited to: human and ecological risk assessment, environmental impact assessments, aquatic effects assessments, specialty toxicology services, and environmental monitoring. You will have opportunities to provide input on a wide range of projects that would benefit from your risk assessment, toxicology, biology, or related expertise.

What you can expect to do here:

  • Apply your expertise in aquatic toxicology to a wide variety of projects by supporting or leading projects related to toxicological effects assessments, risk assessment, and environmental monitoring.
  • Collaborate with senior staff to understand project objectives and implementation of the project.
  • Conduct literature reviews on toxicology and environmental chemistry, critically evaluate and extract relevant information.
  • Design, coordinate, and interpret results of aquatic toxicity studies.
  • Design and/or oversee environmental monitoring programs (time in the field is expected to be minimal for this mid-level position, but as needed to help deliver projects).
  • Integrate literature and toxicity test data to support development of site-specific toxicity thresholds and evaluation of toxicity.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and proposals and participate in client meetings.
  • Develop your technical skills and share these skills with other members of your team and your technical discipline, as supported/mentored by senior staff.
  • Manage projects according to client-approved scopes of work, and deliver high-quality deliverables on time and within budget.
  • Use statistical tools to analyze datasets and help with data visualization.
  • Implement quality control & quality assurance measures applicable to the task.
  • Provide technical training and support to more junior staff.
  • Develop internal/external client relationships.

What You'll Bring To WSP...

  • Master’s degree or higher in Toxicology, Environmental Science, or closely related discipline.
  • Eligibility for professional registration as a Registered Professional Biologist (College of Applied Biology of British Columbia) or other applicable professional regulatory body.
  • 4 to 6 years of relevant experience working in toxicology and risk assessment.
  • A passion for working in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team environment, with strong interpersonal skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience in designing and interpreting results of aquatic toxicity studies, including familiarity with standard toxicity test protocols.
  • Experience in the application of water quality guidelines and their derivation, with the ability to critical review toxicity literature.
  • Good attention to detail and strong written communication skills, including technical writing.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety.
  • Proficiency in basic software (e.g., Microsoft Office) and knowledge of at least one advanced statistical software package (e.g., R, SPSS, SigmaPlot).
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and a clean Driver’s Abstract.
  • Willingness to travel as occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific needs.

Compensation

Expected Salary (British Columbia): $74,600 to $102,600

The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs. The salary range provided in this job posting may be subject to change for business purposes.
