As the leading distributor of electronic vaporizers and award-winning vaping products in Canada, we've made significant progress since our founding in 2013. However, we have much more to accomplish for our customers, and we’re looking for a culturally aligned Data Engineer to join our dynamic team located in Markham.

Overview

We are seeking an experienced SQL Developer with a strong background in database development, data engineering, and cloud computing. The ideal candidate will have extensive expertise in SQL across various dialects, proficiency in data engineering with Python, hands‑on experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Fabric and Google Cloud, working knowledge of Manufacturing and Distribution processes, familiarity with NetSuite and RF‑Smart. This role requires a balance of technical skills, with a primary focus on SQL development (65%), data engineering (20%), and cloud computing (15%), alongside strong interpersonal skills and the ability to translate business problems into technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities
SQL Development (65%)
  • Design, develop, and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and triggers across multiple SQL dialects (e.g., T‑SQL, PL/SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc.).
  • Perform database denormalization and dimensional modeling to support business intelligence and analytics requirements.
  • Implement and maintain ETL processes and data pipelines using tools such as dbt, Fivetran, Fabric Copy Activity, DataFlow Gen 2, and Data Pipelines to ensure efficient data integration and transformation.
  • Ensure data integrity, performance tuning, and optimization of database systems.
  • Collaborate with data analysts and business stakeholders to translate requirements into robust database solutions.
Data Engineering (20%)
  • Develop and maintain data pipelines using Python for data analysis, transformation, and processing.
  • Integrate APIs to extract, transform, and load data from various external sources, including Line of Business applications like NetSuite, into internal systems.
  • Ensure data quality and consistency across data pipelines and workflows.
  • Collaborate with data engineers to design scalable and efficient data architectures.
Cloud Computing (15%)
  • Utilize Microsoft Fabric for data integration, analytics, and reporting, including Fabric Copy Activity, DataFlow Gen 2, and Data Pipelines.
  • Develop and optimize reports and dashboards using Power BI, leveraging DAX for advanced calculations and data modeling.
  • Work with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services (e.g., BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Dataflow) to support data storage and processing needs.
  • Ensure seamless integration of cloud‑based data solutions with existing systems, including LOB applications like NetSuite.
Qualifications
Required Experience
  • SQL Development: 5–7 years of professional experience in SQL development across multiple dialects, with expertise in:
    • Denormalization and dimensional modeling for data warehousing.
    • Building and optimizing ETL processes and data pipelines using dbt, Fivetran, Fabric Copy Activity, DataFlow Gen 2, and Data Pipelines.
    • Database performance tuning and query optimization.
  • Data Engineering: 2–3 years of experience in:
    • Python programming for data analysis, transformation, and scripting.
    • API integration for data ingestion and processing, including integration with NetSuite.
  • Cloud Computing: 2–3 years of experience with:
    • Microsoft Fabric for data integration and analytics, including Fabric Copy Activity, DataFlow Gen 2, and Data Pipelines.
    • Power BI, including advanced DAX scripting and data modeling.
    • Google Cloud Platform services (e.g., BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Dataflow).
Skills And Competencies
  • Strong understanding of relational database concepts, data warehousing, and data modeling techniques.
  • Proficiency in writing clean, efficient, and maintainable Python code for data engineering tasks.
  • Experience with API integration, including RESTful and GraphQL APIs, and integration with NetSuite backend processes.
  • Hands‑on knowledge of Microsoft Fabric, including Fabric Copy Activity, DataFlow Gen 2, and Data Pipelines, and Power BI for building reports and dashboards.
  • Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform and its data‑related services.
  • Understanding of backend processes in Line of Business applications, specifically NetSuite, including data structures, workflows, and integration points.
  • Ability to translate complex business problems into actionable technical solutions.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams, including non‑technical stakeholders, and to facilitate productive discussions and presentations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Fabric Data Engineer Associate certification or equivalent certification in Microsoft Fabric.
  • Python certification (e.g., PCAP, PCPP, or equivalent).
  • Experience with additional ETL tools (e.g., Apache Airflow, Talend).
  • Knowledge of other cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Familiarity with data governance and security best practices.
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
