We are a biotech-focused hedge fund founded in 2006. This is an in-office / in-person position based in downtown Toronto.

About the Job

We are expanding our investment process by integrating machine learning and AI systems, and seek a full-time engineer to lead this effort. This role involves developing and deploying AI tools that assist with research, data extraction, analysis, and decision-making across a wide variety of structured and unstructured sources. You will work directly with the portfolio manager and CEO.

We are looking for an engineer who builds working systems, understands their tools deeply, and can operate independently. Strong fundamentals and demonstrable experience matter more than credentials or job titles.

Start date is no later than September 2, 2025.

Job Duties

• Design, build, and maintain ML models, pipelines, and evaluation frameworks
• Build and scale web scraping and data ingestion tools across diverse sources
• Write production-grade Python code to support ML experiments and live tools
• Clean, normalize, and manage structured and unstructured data
• Design and run validation, performance testing, and model monitoring workflows
• Implement and optimize AI / ML applications using frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, and Hugging Face
• Collaborate closely with investment team to understand real-world requirements
• Deliver solutions that integrate with investment workflows

Education

• Bachelor's Degree, information technology, computer science / engineering or related field
• Applicant must upload academic transcripts
• Applicant should upload aptitude test results - e.g., SAT, GRE, MCAT, GMAT, LSAT - if available

Qualification

• Native proficiency in English (written and spoken)

Skill

• Strong Python programming ability
• Mastery of type annotations, testing frameworks, and code versioning
• Machine learning fundamentals (data prep, model selection, validation, overfitting, generalization, etc.)
• Experience with LLMs, embedding models, or NLP pipelines (e.g., vector databases, RAG systems)
• Experience with SQL and building reliable data pipelines
• Ability to iterate quickly with limited direction
• Familiarity with data pipeline orchestration (Airflow, Prefect)
• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), containerization (Docker), and CI / CD pipelines
• Hands-on experience working with AI hardware (e.g., setting up and managing GPU servers, optimizing model training / inference performance, knowledge of CUDA / GPU memory tuning)

Compensation

We will consider MORE EXPERIENCE CANDIDATES - in which case compensation would be commensurate with experience.
