Overview

Wills & Estate Law Clerk
Location: West End Ottawa (Onsite during probation, hybrid model after 3 months)
Salary: $50,000 – $60,000 (commensurate with experience)

About the Role

We are seeking a detail–oriented and organized Law Clerk to join our team in the West End of Ottawa. In this role, you will provide dedicated support to four lawyers, focusing primarily on Wills and Estates matters. While direct experience in this area is highly valued, we are open to candidates with at least two years of experience in other areas of law who are eager to transition into Wills and Estates.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drafting, reviewing, and preparing Wills, Powers of Attorney, probate applications, and estate administration documents.
  • Coordinating with clients, beneficiaries, executors, and external stakeholders in a professional and compassionate manner.
  • Managing client files from intake to completion, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable laws and procedures.
  • Conducting legal research, maintaining up–to–date knowledge of estate law and practice.
  • Preparing correspondence, reporting letters, and maintaining organized file documentation.
  • Supporting lawyers with scheduling, client communication, and administrative tasks as required.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Law Clerk (Wills & Estates experience preferred, but not required).
  • Law Clerk diploma or equivalent education/experience.
  • Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and legal practice management software.
  • Ability to manage multiple files and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Client-focused with the ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion.
