Job Description

Position Summary

The incumbent is responsible for maintaining contracted assets (roadways, medians, signs, guardrails, fences, bridges, tunnels, vegetation, etc.) through operation/use of heavy equipment, particularly during seasonal needs (e.g., snow plow operations), and other contract-required tasks. This role requires a strong safety awareness and the ability to recognize hazards and adjust to prevent loss or injury. You must be able to communicate safety instructions to co-workers and wear PPE appropriate to your job.

Seasonal Employment

We are seeking Snow Plow / Seasonal Equipment Operators for the seasonal time period of October through April. We offer competitive pay and other seasonal benefits. A minimum DZ license is required for this job.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Primary Responsibilities And Key Deliverables

For Winter Season - Removal of snow and ice using snow removal and/or sanding equipment, including salting and other seasonal maintenance on roads, bridges, etc.

For Summer Season - This role will maintain and repair highways and other surfaces including signs, guardrails, fences, lighting, potholes, striping, adding or replacing reflectors, litter and debris removal.

As Required

  • Traffic control setup and removal
  • Transport crew and equipment to work sites
  • Required to be available for emergency response rotations as needed for overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • All other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Effectively communicate (in English); both orally and in writing with co-workers and supervisor
  • Perform basic mathematical functions
  • Consistently follow all policies and procedures
  • Understand instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions
  • Must be capable of working in an environment with changing demands and priorities
  • Work with hand and power tools, traffic control devices and mobile equipment such as tractors, graders, mowers, sweepers, augers and other equipment used for surface and right-of-way maintenance
Education And Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1+ years related work experience in construction, road maintenance, repair, operating equipment with a DZ license
Certifications and License
  • Valid Ontario Class DZ driver's license and acceptable driving record; AZ license a plus

Physical Demands
  • The employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk on various surfaces; use hands; reach with arms; climb, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Use hand and powered tools and equipment. Vision includes near and far, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
Work Environment
  • Exposure to outside weather conditions including extreme heat and cold; occasional exposure to wet/humid conditions; high places; fumes or airborne particles. Frequent exposure to chemicals; insects; occasional exposure to reptiles/rodents. Noise level usually moderate.
