We are seeking a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to support our Veterinary Technician and Veterinary Assistant programs. As a support staff member in the Health, Wellness & Sciences academic area at Georgian College, you will have the opportunity to apply your passion for sharing your rich industry experience by creating a supportive and effective learning environment which supports students to achieve their full potential.

Located in Barrie and reporting to the Associate Dean the incumbent coordinates, organizes and maintains the Labs within the Veterinary Program, including the Veterinary clinic. This includes organizing and coordinating student learning activities and demonstrations; setting up equipment; maintaining learning tools, equipment and supplies; and maintaining accurate student records. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Facilitating student practice and reinforcing applied pre-learned principles / theory related to nursing skills, procedures and client assessment by organizing and scheduling student learning activities, practice sessions and skill practice demonstrations complete with scenarios, low fidelity simulators, equipment, supplies, etc.
  • Collaborating with faculty to formulate a plan of action, and provide individual coaching to students struggling to demonstrate skill competency
  • Providing feedback to faculty on observed skills for students
  • Organizing and implementing in-service training / orientation for students and faculty on the use of equipment in the labs
  • Setting up equipment and supplies in the lab for student practice and other events as required (i.e. Open House, etc.)
  • Ensuring all lab safety standards and standard operating procedures for electronic and other safety requirements (i.e. sharps, etc.) in a health care environment are followed
  • Maintaining and updating resources including computer software, learning tools, posters, manuals, journal articles, resource textbooks, equipment and supplies to ensure materials / equipment are current and in good working order
  • Organizing, maintaining, and purchasing supplies as required
  • Maintaining accurate student records
Qualifications

Required:

  • RVT in good standing with the OAVT
  • An undergraduate degree in a related field
  • Five or more years’ experience teaching within an accredited Veterinary Technician program
  • Experience training and demonstrating skills to others
  • Experience in the areas of anesthesia, surgery and/or dental care would be an asset.
  • Experience with ordering supplies, inventory management, and tracking systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety rules and regulations in a health care environment
  • Computer skills and experience using the MS Office Suite
  • Interpersonal and communication (oral & written) skills
  • Must be self-directed with the ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Proven analytical, critical thinking, decision making, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated planning, coordinating and time management skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Courses in Teaching and Training Adults would be an asset
  • Experience with simulation would be an asset
