Job Description

Vehicle Shifter position performs the coupling and uncoupling of tractor trailers. This position moves and maneuvers tractor trailer equipment into position for the tractor trailer and package handling operations. This position may include other work as directed.

Job Type: Part-Time Permanent

Work Location: 12424 Dixie Rd Caledon ON L7C 2L8

Workday Days: Tuesday to Saturday (Must be available to work all 5 days)

Shift Hours: 12:00 AM to 5:00 AM or 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM * (Flexibility with start and finish times required based on operational needs) *

Shift Duration: 3-5 hours per day

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepares work zone with suitable equipment in accordance with current guidelines
  • Assist with organizing specified set-up
  • Unload incoming packages manually or using a machine
  • Check the quantity and condition of delivery units
  • Scan packages using the correct equipment
  • Sort packages according to the defined processes (UPS department, destination, etc.) then store them in the areas provided according to categories
  • Fill out documentation or records and validate information on the appropriate media
  • Reposition vehicles according to the established dock plan
  • Clean work environment during or after operations
  • Report any malfunctions to the supervisor
Requirements
  • Meets local age and operations requirements to operate a vehicle
  • Knowledge of package handling principles
  • High school diploma, GED, or international equivalent
  • 2 years' experience driving vehicles – Preferred
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment
Compensation and Benefits
  • Pay rate of $19.00/hr
  • Unionized position with automatic progression as per the existing Union Collective Agreement (top rate of $30.38/hr. after 48 months of service)
  • Tuition reimbursement up to $2,000 per semester (subject to eligibility, program approval, and satisfactory academic performance)

Expenses/Working Conditions
  • Monthly union dues (approximately $52/month)
