  • Employment Type : Full time (35 hours per week)
  • Duration : 12-month fixed
  • Remuneration : $112,154 – $126,366 (depending on experience) + 17% super + leave loading
  • Location : Kensington, NSW (Hybrid Working)

The portfolio of External Engagement is responsible for connecting the University with core stakeholders including philanthropists, alumni, government, volunteers, the media, and the broader community. It is made up of six collaborative and high performing teams : Strategic Communications, Development, Centre for Ideas, News and Content, External Engagement and Operations.

Working as part of the Asia-Pacific editorial team of the 360info project collaboration with UNSW, the UNSW Editor, 360info is responsible for identifying topics of interest and leading researchers and stakeholders to collaborate with to produce high quality content for the 360info news wire service.

The role is expected to manage and oversee production of content, working to tight deadlines, while upholding.

The role will work closely with the News & Content team to ensure best practice, coordination and sharing of ideas.

The UNSW Editor, 360info will report to the Head of News & Content with a dotted line to the 360info Asia-Pacific Bureau Editor. The role has no direct reports.

Responsibilities
  • Working with the Asia-Pacific Editor, provide oversight and day-to-day management of 360info content to ensure accuracy and a high level of quality, including the verification of facts, dates and statistics, and editing of copy with specific attention to audience, purpose and style
  • Commissioning of 360info articles and multimedia content in partnership with academics and researchers across the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Manage the overall development and implementation of editorial plans to support the performance and success of the 360info platform in collaboration with the Senior News & Content Manager under the direction of the Head of News & Content.
  • Support 360info’s liaison and outreach to media partners based in Sydney with advice and input from the Head of News & Content.
  • Lead a high-quality program of content development from universities across the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Champion the distilling of complex research to create engaging content that resonates with diverse audiences while enhancing awareness of world class researchers and their work.
  • Analyse, monitor and report on content trends, identifying opportunities for 360info content direction, new channel development and connecting with target audiences.
  • Build and maintain highly effective working relationships with UNSW researchers and key external stakeholders.
Skills and Experience
  • A relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proven expertise in content production and execution across all digital mediums.
  • An understanding of target audiences, with an effective writing and editing style, and ability to enhance and bring content to life.
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop, plan and execute successful content initiatives simultaneously.
  • Experience in distilling complex information into accessible research storytelling in support of strategic goals. Experience in research communication practices an advantage.
  • Demonstrated success working effectively and collaboratively on initiatives with a range of people at all levels within an organisation, and the ability to manage stakeholder expectations to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Ability to apply judgement, creativity and flexibility to generate innovative ideas and approaches to solve problems. Proven success using your initiative to develop, drive and share content ideas.
  • Experience in engaging with mainstream and specialist media.
