Purpose

The purpose of the Underground Projects Engineer is to plan, coordinate, and support the safe and efficient delivery of underground miningcapitalprojects. The role ensures that engineering, construction, and operational activities are executedin accordance withapproved designs, schedules, budgets, and safety standards. The Underground Projects Engineer acts as a link between project planning and site execution, providing technical support,monitoringprogress, coordinating contractors and internal teams, and resolving field issues to achieve projectobjectives. The position supports continuous improvement in underground infrastructure, mine development, and operational capability whilemaintaininga strong focus on safety, quality, and compliance.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the planning and execution of underground capital projects, supporting growth and sustaining capital.
  • Ensure project designs comply with regulatory, environmental, and site-specific requirements.
  • Support project schedules, budgets, and cost tracking through regular progress and variance reporting.
  • Prepare progress reports, presentations, and any other documentation to support successful project development and execution.
  • Coordinate with operations, contractors, and technical teams to ensure successful schedule and budget alignment.
  • Liaise with third party consultants on engineering study work for various projects.
  • Participate in project meetings, toolbox talks, and coordination sessions.
  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, including Geology, Geotech, Maintenance, Operations, and Planning Departments.
  • Regular underground field visits to monitor project progress, quality, and compliance.
  • Participate in commissioning and handover of completed projects.
Training and Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
  • Professional Engineer designation or ability to obtain
  • 2-5 years of experience in underground mine design, planning, or capital projects
  • Previous experience in capital projects is an asset
  • Knowledge of underground safety regulations, mine services, and ground control is a must
  • Familiarity with underground mining methods, development activities, and infrastructure systems
  • Basic understanding of project controls (schedule, cost, scope)
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Experience with software such as Deswik, MS Project, or other design/planning software.
