Job summary

An amateur basketball organization in Toronto seeks a Head Coach for the U17 Women’s National Team. This contractor position focuses on training development and support, contributing to the team's performance in the 2026 FIBA U17 Women’s World Cup. Candidates must be NCCP certified with coaching experience, demonstrate strong communication and leadership skills, and preferably be bilingual. Qualifications

  • Minimum NCCP certification and experience coaching high-performing teams required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both French and English is an asset.
  • Experience with Canada Basketball or a PTSO is beneficial.

Responsibilities

OVERVIEW

The U17 Women’s National Team will be comprised of athletes born January 1, 2009 or later, who have Canadian citizenship. This year, the team selected will compete at the 2026 FIBA U17 Women’s World Cup July 11th-19th in Czechia.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead and support the development of athletes at training camps and during the U17 World Cup competition.
  • Attend all National Team related events and functions.
  • Plan, prepare and direct training and practice activities of the team. Submit a Team Performance Plan (TPP) in advance of the season as per requested format.
  • Be available for meetings as necessary and as requested by Canada Basketball. Be fully committed to and aligned with the vision of Canada’s women’s high-performance program.
  • Understand their current context and application to the FIBA game and Women’s National Team context.
  • Have experience, knowledge and/or demonstrated competencies working/dealing with high performance athletes.
  • Have demonstrated knowledge of the required athletic and skill development needs for athletes at particular levels of the long-term athlete development model (LTAD) in the Train to Compete and Learn to Win phases that will lead towards Canada’s goal of podium success at Olympic Games.
  • Ability to work with technology and statistical analysis in teaching and developing winning athletes.
  • Have the ability to work as a member of a team of dedicated professionals in the pursuit of a common goal to become world leaders.
  • Show the willingness to contribute to the growth of the Women’s National Team and High Performance Program coaching system.
  • Make the necessary time commitment to be part of the program and coaching team.
  • Display commitment to Canada Basketball and the high performance program.
  • Participate in the program review and evaluations as requested by Canada Basketball.
QUALIFICATIONS, REQUIRED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
  • NCCP certification and experience coaching high-performing teams required.
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset.
  • Experience with Canada Basketball or a Provincial/Territorial Sport Organization (PTSO) is an asset.
  • Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills, leadership, and a passion for developing young athletes.
