We are currently looking for a Licensed Practical Nurse interested in a position in Nova Scotia.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team in Digby, Nova Scotia. This is a temporary position focused on providing patient care in the Medical/Acute/Alternate Level of Care (ALC) units. The role involves providing direct care for patients, including those requiring ongoing medical treatment and ALC services. Accommodation will be provided by the agency for the duration of the assignment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct, hands-on nursing care to patients in the Medical and ALC units, ensuring their safety, comfort, and well-being.
  • Monitor vital signs, administer prescribed medications, and assist with daily activities such as personal hygiene, feeding, and mobility.
  • Collaboration with Healthcare Team:
    • Work collaboratively with Registered Nurses (RNs), physicians, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure effective, patient-centered care.
    • Assist in the development and implementation of care plans tailored to meet the needs of each patient.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care activities, including vital signs, medication administration, changes in condition, and other significant observations.
    • Report any changes in patient condition to the RN or physician in a timely manner.
  • ALC Care Focus:
    • Support patients in the ALC unit, helping to ensure they are comfortable while awaiting placement or discharge to a more appropriate care setting.
    • Assist with the transition of care for ALC patients, ensuring a smooth process for discharge or transfer.
  • Infection Control:
    • Adhere to all hospital infection control practices to prevent the spread of infections, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and sanitation protocols.
  • Patient and Family Education:
    • Educate patients and their families about their medical conditions, treatment plans, and any necessary follow-up care after discharge.
    • Provide emotional support to patients and families, especially in the context of ALC care.
  • Emergency and Critical Care Support:
    • Provide assistance in emergency situations as needed, following hospital protocols for critical care management.
  • Assist in Procedures:
    • Help with various medical procedures such as catheterization, wound dressing changes, injections, and other routine nursing tasks as directed by the healthcare team.
Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • Graduation from an accredited Practical Nursing Program.
  • Licensing & Certification:
    • Current registration with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN) as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • Experience:
    • Experience in a hospital setting, particularly in Medical or Acute Care environments, is preferred.
    • Experience with Alternate Level of Care (ALC) patients is an asset but not required.
  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Strong clinical nursing skills with a focus on patient care in both acute and ALC settings.
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage time effectively in a busy healthcare environment.
    • Ability to provide compassionate care, particularly for patients facing long-term stays or those requiring ongoing support.
    • Knowledge of hospital policies, procedures, and infection control practices.
