Position Description
A temporary full-time (1.0) French Immersion Intermediate Teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective immediately to June 30, 2026. The assignment will be at Ecole Central Elementary School. Ecole Central Elementary School of the Arts is a K-6, Fine Arts French Immersion school located in downtown Fort St. John, in the Peace River Valley. We offer an early French immersion program, which begins in kindergarten. Fourteen percent of our students are of First Nations ancestry. Our school has a staffing complement of 15 teachers and 8 support workers, as well a principal, and .3 vice principal, reading support teacher and a .4 librarian. Our school enjoys itinerant access to a range of services.
Qualifications And Experience
- Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
- All applicants will be required to participate in a French fluency assessment (written & oral)
- Proficiency in written and oral communication in French
- Willingness to have an interview in French with the District's French Language Coordinator
- Practicum work and experience teaching in French or French Immersion at the Intermediate level
- Ability to demonstrate thorough knowledge of a balanced literacy program including guided reading and assessment
- Qualifications and demonstrated ability to teach the identified subjects at the elementary years level
- Experience with universal design and differentiation to meet the diverse needs of students
- Excellent interpersonal, communications, collaboration and organization skills
- Experience / training / knowledge of Social Emotional Learning. Demonstrated ability to create a positive classroom community contributing to a safe, caring, and healthy school where every student feels a sense of belonging
- Strong belief in the philosophy of inclusion and the potential of all students to learn
- Understanding of the BC Curriculum and ability to plan both short-term and long-term in consideration of class composition
- Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the foundation of enhancing student learning
- Demonstrated use of classroom management practices that are pro-active and maintain student dignity
- Demonstrated use of assessment practices that promote student learning and maintain student dignity
- Experience and / or course work in teaching a minimum of one Fine Arts strand with the ability to contribute to the overall vision of a Fine Arts school
- Integration of computer technology into the learning environment
- Committed to working with staff on the school plan and with professional development

Compensation
- 2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas
- 3,035 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
- Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $65,397 - $111,952
- Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enroll in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE
