A health services organization in Canada is seeking an Education and Training Lead. Emergency Medical Care Inc. (EMC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Medavie Health Services (MHS) that manages and operates ground ambulance, air medical transport and medical communications in Nova Scotia. EMC works under a performance-based contract with the provincial Emergency Health Services (EHS) Operations division and the Department of Health and Wellness, and operates TeleHealth/811 medical communications for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
EMC serves communities across Nova Scotia with a fleet of more than 180 ambulances and support vehicles from 60+ stations, responding to 165,000+ calls annually. The EHS Operations LifeFlight program supports on-scene and inter-facility transports by critical care teams via helicopter, fixed wing, or ground ambulance. Nova Scotia paramedics participate in programs such as community-based paramedic programs, collaborative emergency centres and emergency preparedness and special operations.

Education and Training Lead is a Registered Nurse responsible for planning, development, implementation and evaluation of staff orientation and continuing education programs; coordinates staff development activities for all TeleHealth programs and acts as a patient education consultant. The role includes developing, implementing, updating and maintaining standard operating guidelines for clinical and non-clinical TeleHealth roles, ensuring alignment with best practice, healthcare partners and Accreditation standards.
Plans and delivers an innovative staff education program to enhance competence, performance, quality and productivity for both work-from-home employees and in-centre staff. Designs and delivers monthly education sessions (self-directed, web-based, in person or virtual), and assesses educational needs using traditional and e-learning tools. Develops and maintains staff orientation programs, follows up at specified intervals, and coordinates general and staff-specific educational activities to meet development requirements in a timely manner.
Evaluates all education delivered and implements feedback for continual improvement. Supports Clinical Supervisors with additional education needed for staff from a performance perspective. Ensures preceptors have tools, organizes preceptor meetings, and reviews feedback for improvements. Maintains a reference library (electronic and print) and a registry of staff participation in educational programs. Assists with patient education documents and programs. Performs TeleHealth Nurse duties for 20% of worked hours. Ensures patient safety as a priority and contributes to the safe and timely triage of callers. Participates in Manager On Call rotation, after hours and weekend leadership coverage for TeleHealth operations. Networks with stakeholders for education purposes and collaborates within TeleHealth and EMC for staff development. Responsible for tracking and coordinating all SOGs with staff input.
Service Delivery

Designs and implements methods to assess educational needs and deliver programs using traditional and e-learning tools. Designs, coordinates, updates and delivers staff orientation and follow-up. Ensures education is completed in a timely and efficient manner and evaluates all education with ongoing feedback. Supports Clinical Supervisors with additional education as needed and ensures preceptors have tools and processes for success. Maintains a staff education reference library and a registry of participation. Participates in quality and accreditation activities and maintains alignment with service standards.
Service excellence and development
Evaluates feedback to improve educational programs. Participates in EMC TeleHealth Services Quality Program and Accreditation requirements. Monitors educational trends and adopts leading practices in telehealth. Considers future service development and proactively advances staff education.
