Overview
Brandt is currently looking for Heavy Equipment Technicians - Material Handling for our Laval Construction & Forestry location. The Heavy Equipment Technician - Material Handling independently performs basic / complex diagnostics, service maintenance and repair work on customer and / or dealer-owned equipment on an efficient basis. Resolves customer issues to their satisfaction on a timely basis.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Work within budgets and approvals provided by the Service Manager.
- Maintain a high level of productivity, efficiency, and gross margin.
- Maintain a quality of work metric of 98% (percent of work completed right the first time).
- Accurately record all work done for customer and warranty records.
- Maintain current product knowledge of equipment specific to industry / branch location.
- Maintain a clean work area and perform work in a neat and orderly manner.
- Follow all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments. Maintain thorough understanding of Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) systems and standards, and a commitment to a safe working environment.
- Ensure knowledge and compliance of proper procedure for disposal of hazardous waste.
- Work within the guidelines set by directors and managers.
- Perform all service tasks as assigned by the Material Handling Service Manager or Foreman.
- Participate in Service Training programs for skill and knowledge development (industry-specific technologies).
- Maintain and care for department tools, equipment, and vehicles.
- Mentor and oversee apprentices.
Diagnostic & Repair
- Perform basic / complex diagnostics on electrical equipment to determine repair needs.
- Diagnose and repair related systems (disassembly, assembly and repair).
- Perform customer, manufacturer, or government inspections on equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks, electric carts, electric tow trucks, transporters).
- Utilize common tools to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on material handling equipment.
- Prepare all reports and forms required for job assignments (work orders submitted upon completion).
Required Skills
- Outstanding knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and propane systems.
- Demonstrated diagnostic skills for mechanical and electrical systems of battery- or engine-powered equipment.
- Experience with hand tools and measuring devices, as well as electrical / electronic diagnostic tools.
- Knowledge of industrial equipment including lifting / rigging, maintenance, dismantling, and installation of machinery and service equipment.
- Experience with equipment alignment, dial indicators / calipers, micrometers, hoists or jacks is a plus.
- Strong time-management skills and ability to work under pressure.
- Strong communication skills and customer-focused approach.
- Trade qualification (Heavy Equipment, Agriculture, Automotive, Truck / Transport) considered an asset.
