Qualifications

The Team: Global Banking and Markets Engineering (GBME) is the fast-moving, award-winning technology engine that powers Scotiabank's Corporate, Investment Banking and Capital Markets businesses. GBME is searching for a Lead Software Engineer who is eager to boost capabilities of capital markets products and analytics platforms. The successful candidate will have to be a seasoned technical and engineering mindset. You will work closely with business teams and cross functional engineering leaders to develop and implement market leading solutions for the various projects within Global Banking and Markets Engineering (GBME).

Responsibilities
  • Lead complex transformational solutions and integrations, end to end across various projects in GBME, producing actionable and complete specifications, writing production quality code, and production implementation(s).
  • Advocate for professional-level solutions, code quality, and modern engineering practices.
  • Independently develop, test, and deploy complex custom components using vendor APIs in Java or relatable technology.
  • Design test sets (automate where possible) using vendor and in-house developed tools; enhance testing tools as needed.
  • Design, deliver and enhance new and current solutions and applications, being committed to writing the most efficient, scalable code possible, and continuously find improvements.
  • Continuously partner with Architecture team on the design and integration of scalable solutions.
  • Improve the end user experience by finding scalable solutions and addressing complex ad hoc queries.
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to other developers.
  • Effectively communicate with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Coach and train end users (as needed).
Qualifications
  • 8+ years of experience in enterprise application development using 2 or more modern development languages (Java / Python preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience using Linux or Unix, including related scripting.
  • 5+ years of experience with SQL and/or other query languages and database design.
  • 3+ years of experience working as a Technical Lead.
  • Ability to interact and coordinate with numerous internal teams including Operations and Application support groups.
  • Experience with large data volumes and with DevOps tools (e.g., Jenkins or similar pipelines).
  • Experience with Messaging Bus technologies (Kafka, MQ, JMS, or Solace).
  • Experience with front-end technologies (e.g., Angular, Vue, etc.).
  • Experience with automation/scheduling tools (e.g., Airflow, NiFi, etc.).
  • Good working knowledge of design patterns and best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills for audiences including executives and non-technical resources.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field (computer science, computer engineering or related).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working on data transformation.
  • Experience in Cloud (GCP) or Kubernetes (GKE) computing is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Capital Markets workflows and products; experience interfacing directly with Front Office users like traders and sales.
  • Experience in application/solutions architecture.
  • Previous Scotiabank experience and knowledge of internal processes is a plus.
