Position Summary

  • SW 350 – Anti-Oppressive Social Work Practice
  • This course unravels the underlying threads of multiple oppressions and the intersection of various sources and forms of oppression. The course will focus on anti-oppressive theoretical perspectives, laws, actions, advocacy, social work ethics and their application to social work practice and policy.
  • The semester class period is from May 4, 2026 – June 17, 2026.
  • Sessional Lecturers that are teaching remote delivery classes are expected to teach 13 synchronous classes throughout the semester.
Expectations for Sessional Lecturers
  • Preparing the course outline, designing relevant assignments, evaluating and grading student work, and submitting student grades by the required deadline.
  • Teaching course content that follows the course description, established learning objectives, and university academic guidelines.
  • Delivering 13 lectures throughout the semester.
  • Encouraging and maintaining a safe and collaborative classroom environment.
  • Providing regular support to students on course work during office hours, and as required by students.
  • Consulting with the Associate Dean (Undergraduate Programs) on academic or student-related matters as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Master of Social Work (MSW)
  • Demonstrated related experience appropriate to the course content description as listed above.
  • Superior communications skills (both written and verbal).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Recent teaching experience in a post-secondary environment is considered an asset.

  • Pay Grade: Faculty Sessional Salary Range As per URFA Collective Agreement

  • Work Hours: The course is offered on Wednesday’s 9:00 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. The Sessional Lecturer is expected to teach remote delivery via Zoom for each of the 13 lectures, be in the Zoom room 10-15 minutes before each class starts, as well as offer regular office hours for their students each week.
