Your Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Structural Engineer to join the Integrated Design team. The successful candidate would primarily support Power Delivery and Substation Design work in British Columbia, Canada. This role offers opportunities for technical growth within a diverse team. Stantec offers a flexible workplace; ideally, the successful candidate would work from the office at least 2 days a week, with hybrid work options open for discussion. As a registered Professional Engineer, you will be responsible for working on various industrial projects. This role involves structural engineering design and analysis under minimal supervision, making sound structural engineering decisions and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Perform structural design and analysis to applicable codes. Typical structures include heavy industrial/energy infrastructure steel structures and concrete foundations; work primarily supports power distribution and substation design projects.
  • Develop designs through sketches, hand calculations, and structural analysis software models.
  • Work with Engineers and Designers on fit-for-purpose designs that meet the client’s needs and requests.
  • Interface with other disciplines and project management to execute projects per the project plan.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to EITs and designers as part of professional development, while taking an active role in your own career development.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects within Stantec's quality control guidelines.
  • Prepare and coordinate project specifications including construction documents.
  • Attend project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or clients.
  • Travel to local project sites as needed.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Registered P. Eng. or eligible to obtain P.Eng in British Columbia.
  • Strong communication, coordination, and time management skills.
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently.
  • Ability to apply practical knowledge and sound judgement to analyze issues, interpret information and select methods and solutions to resolve design problems within stand practice guidelines. Requisite knowledge and application of structural design codes (NBCC, CSA, ASCE, AISC, ACI, etc.).
  • Skills to manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Experience in a project team setting and engaging in creative and critical thinking.
  • Enthusiastic to expand structural engineering knowledge and keen to work in a team environment.
  • Willingness to work on multiple jobs/projects at a time.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use industry standard structural analysis software suites (STAAD.Pro, etc.) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of mathematical computational tools such as MathCad and the ability to perform detailed structural calculations within this environment.
  • Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Fluency in English; French (written and verbal) will be considered a strong asset.
  • Experience working on projects related to power transmission and distribution, specifically substations.
  • Willingness to travel to client sites and other Stantec offices.
  • Field experience is a strong asset.

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a focus on structural.
  • BC Hydro and/or substation design experience.

Pay Range

  • Locations in Lower Mainland - BC - Min Salary $91,800.00 - Max Salary $133,100.00

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. The final agreed-upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. Some roles are bonus eligible.
