Overview

Position Summary

We have a training opportunity that may interest you. We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team in the Emergency department at Dawson Creek & District Hospital.

In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health and practicing in accordance with the standards of professional practice and code of ethics as outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). The Registered Nurse provides direct nursing care to the Emergency and High Acuity care patients according to established standards / policies. Identifies, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care to assist patients in meeting their physical, social, and psychological needs in the Emergency and High Acuity Care environment.

Education and Training Program

Regional Emergency Department Education Program (REDEP) / HAU: The Northern Health Regional Emergency Department Education Program (REDEP) utilizes a standardized, evidence informed online curriculum offered by Elsevier, called Emergency Nursing Orientation (ENO). REDEP combines ENO online curriculum with a skills / simulation lab and clinical practicum to prepare registered nurses to provide safe and competent emergency nursing care at a novice level. Upon completion of the REDEP education, learners will transition into the Northern Health Critical Care Program - High Acuity Unit (NHCCP-HAU). This education utilizes a standardized, evidence informed online curriculum offered by Elsevier, called Essentials in Critical Care Orientation (ECCO). NHCCP-HAU combines ECCO online curriculum with clinical practicum to prepare registered nurses to provide safe and competent care within a High Acuity Unit, at a novice level.

Training Positions
  • There are 7 training positions available for 2025 / 2026
  • Northern Health provides placement support and funding for tuition, textbooks, and travel expenses for clinical placements, as required
  • Successful candidates may be required to complete pre-requisite courses through part-time distance education, on their own time, prior to assuming this position
  • Learners should expect to make a 4-6 month commitment for this education, which includes online and in-person learning
  • Additional study time, outside of scheduled hours, will be required to successfully complete the program
  • Flexibility for practicums is necessary
  • Prior experience on an acute care ward (medical / surgical) preferred
  • Must have completed Heart and Stroke BLS in the last 6 months
  • Preference for participants who have completed an electrocardiogram (ECG) course prior to beginning REDEP
  • Applicants must successfully complete the education program prior to working in the department
  • Upon successful completion of the education program, Northern Health requires an eighteen (18) month return of service in a regular position in the area of nursing applicable to the education program
  • Qualified applicants will be considered first for specialty positions. If there are no qualified applicants, training lines will be awarded to unqualified applicants and training will be provided

Dawson Creek & District Hospital is a full service community hospital that provides service to Dawson Creek and surrounding communities. Dawson Creek: Wide blue skies and the rolling foothills of the Northern Rockies surround Dawson Creek. Qualifications

  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant.
  • Current Level C CPR certification. ACLS, CTAS required or acquired within twelve (12) months from date of hire.
