WHAT’S THE JOB?

Based at a Horizon North camp facility, the position involves a 20-day on, 10-day off rotation, with 11-12-hour shifts. Transportation is provided from a designated pickup point.

The Sous Chef oversees daily kitchen operations, orders ingredients, plans menus, assists with food prep and service, trains staff, and ensures adherence to Horizon North Food Safety protocols.

This position is safety sensitive and requires drug and alcohol testing and a fitness assessment as a condition of employment.

Your work will include:

  • Preparing and presenting high-quality rotational menus
  • Supervising kitchen staff’s productivity and compliance with safety and quality standards
  • Training, developing, and mentoring employees
  • Ensuring food safety using FOODSAFE and HACCP standards
  • Managing resources effectively and efficiently
  • Providing personable and professional service to clients and staff
  • Considering dietary restrictions, allergies, vegan, and vegetarian options in meal planning
  • Conducting bi-weekly inventory checks
  • Supporting all kitchen roles to ensure timely meal service and cleanliness
  • Performing other duties as assigned

  • Extensive experience as a Chef in various settings with knowledge of international and domestic cuisines
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, GFS, Outlook
  • Knowledge of menu costing, recipe implementation, and wage control
  • Strong practical and theoretical kitchen skills across all areas
  • Effective leadership, positive personality, and good listening skills
