Job description

Stage 3 specializes in high-quality solids control equipment designed for mud systems to effectively manage solids, reduce costs for customers, and provide limited or zero discharge solutions as necessary. We also utilize a team of Solids Control Field Technicians, field supervisors, engineers, and scientists to make informed recommendations for efficient and cost-effective job management.

Under the general direction of and reporting to the Field Leader(s), the Solids Control Field Technician oversees mechanical processes used to enhance drilling operations and recycle drilling fluid through closed-loop and other mud systems. You will receive on-the-job training on our specialized Stage 3 equipment. This position involves 12-hour shifts on a 14 days on, 7 days off rotational schedule at various project sites. It is a safety-sensitive position.

We are hiring for our Calgary office; however, field technicians work across Canada on remote locations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Work 14 days on and 7 days off (schedule may vary by site).
  2. Perform 12-hour shifts, including overtime, on a rotational basis.
  3. Work a swing shift from 12:00 PM to 12:00 AM or 12:00 AM to 12:00 PM, shadowing experienced technicians and leaders.
  4. Travel domestically to remote locations across Canada.
  5. Be assigned to one or multiple projects as required.
  6. Learn to rig up and rig down equipment.
  7. Operate various solids control equipment such as shaker tanks, centrifuges, drying equipment, and pumps.
  8. Develop knowledge of environmental services and basic electrical principles.
  9. Understand drilling fluid properties and perform fluid analysis.
  10. Perform solids control services like air drilling, barite recovery, de-watering, and fluid transfers.
  11. Learn routine maintenance and electrical services on equipment.
  12. Operate heavy machinery safely and efficiently under supervision.
  13. Maintain a clean work environment using pressure washing equipment.
  14. Participate actively in daily safety meetings.
  15. Complete daily safety documentation and inspection reports.
  16. Wear proper PPE on site and follow safety protocols.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Team player capable of working independently.
  • Mechanically inclined with electronic comprehension.
  • Ability to input routine data into company systems.
  • Problem-solving skills and efficient time management.
  • Ability to develop professional relationships on the rig.
  • Customer service skills, using diplomacy and tact.
  • Experience or certification in operating excavators, forklifts, or wheel loaders; training provided.
  • Certifications in H2S, WHMIS, Lockout/Tagout, CPR/First Aid.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Availability to be away from home for 14 days or more.
  • Maintain shared living quarters in order and cleanliness.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and understanding English.
  • Progression to Field Level 1 upon passing evaluations.

Minimum education and experience include a high school diploma or GED, 18+ years of age, and preferred technical or associate's degree in related fields. Prior experience with heavy equipment and certifications is advantageous. Valid driver’s license and the ability to pass safety-sensitive drug testing are required.
