Job description
Overview

The Amazon Consumer Payments organization has several positions available for creative and independent engineers with a passion for scalable, high-performance services to define and build Amazon's stored value systems. We offer the Internet's premier gift card, and we are continuing to grow and expand our business with innovative stored value products. In addition to building high-performance services to serve our growing customers, we are equally interested in bringing more joy and less friction to the gifting experience.

As a member of the Amazon Consumer Payments team, you will invent new features, develop distributed services, and build a massively scalable, rock-solid platform solution using object-oriented Java on various UNIX-flavored platforms. We are a fast-paced environment, using agile methodology and lightweight SOA design patterns. We encourage innovation and expect developers to take a high level of ownership throughout the software life cycle. We minimize the more bureaucratic aspects of agile and focus on giving developers time to develop.

We are looking to improve the Amazon customer’s gift card experience by greatly improving the scalability of our legacy systems. There are numerous opportunities to redesign existing architectures and become an owner of a critical service for the payment products team. We are embracing the latest technologies to help ensure our platform can continue to grow.

If you are a strong developer with experience and interest in high-volume websites, distributed systems and databases, performance and scalability, we'd like to talk to you. The Gift Card’s team presents a great deal of interesting challenges. We vend products to corporate customers and amazon retail shopper alike. This broad interaction with a variety of teams gives GC developers a great opportunity to grow quickly within Amazon and learn a great deal about Retail.

Responsibilities
  • Invent new features, develop distributed services, and build a scalable platform solution.
  • Improve scalability of legacy systems and redesign architectures as needed.
  • Own critical services for the payment products team.
  • Work in a fast-paced, agile environment with lightweight SOA patterns and high ownership of the software life cycle.
  • Collaborate with multiple teams to deliver high-volume, high-performance gift card solutions.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language.
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
