Job Summary

The incumbent will act as a trusted advisor to Social Mission leadership and ministry units, providing analysis, recommendations and coaching to improve safety in our social service settings. The Safety Consultant is responsible for assessing the current state of safety in ministry units of a variety of sizes and types in order to provide advice which is practical, relevant and missionally aligned. The primary objective of this role is to support Social Mission in improving safety for both clients and staff, which is not a standalone thing but instead a part of building a culture which supports good outcomes for individuals and the organization.

Key Accountabilities
  • Gather data on Ministry Unit (MU) incidents and safety concerns with executive and regional support; conduct site visits across a cross-section of MU types; assemble findings on safety within TSA facilities and surroundings; analyze data to identify trends, gaps, and key pressure points.
  • Stay informed on relevant legislation and TSA policies; review best practices and proven methods in safety across sectors.
  • Compile and share comprehensive reports with TSA leadership, Social Mission Department, and MU teams, including recommendations for MU-level and organizational-level improvements.
  • Recommend and implement MU-specific safety improvements, including risk assessment, violence prevention, physical space modifications (e.g., CPTED), security measures, mental health crisis interventions, incident reporting, and community relationship building.
  • Guide MU leaders and teams on risk assessment and safety improvements aligned with organizational and funder expectations; develop training and resources in collaboration with Knowledge Mobilization & Implementation team.
  • Ensure all recommendations are trauma-informed, person-centred, and consistent with TSA Mission, Vision, Values, and policies; support creation of non-fire emergency response plans as needed.
  • Recommend changes at the organizational level to support MU safety; advise Strategy & Support team on integrating safety considerations into projects, practices, and resources.
  • Participate in incident reviews or investigations; collaborate with Mission Support Partners (Property, Risk Management, Legal) to identify and implement safety improvements.
  • Adhere to health & safety legislation and TSA processes, including ongoing training; engage in initiatives promoting psychological health, safety, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Contribute to building and maintaining a positive culture aligned with TSA mission, vision, values, and organizational standards.
Education and Experience Qualifications
  • Completion of a Master’s degree in a relevant specialized area OR completion of an undergraduate University degree, plus professional designation/certification in a specialized area.
  • Experience and training on Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) an asset
  • Minimum 7 years in the addictions field, including 5 years in senior or management roles, with knowledge of social services administration, program development, and the non-profit/social service sector.
  • Experience in law enforcement, security, asset protection, criminal justice, investigative agencies, and related fields; able to address social justice issues.
  • Training and experience in trauma-informed care, mental health first aid, crisis intervention, conflict resolution, mediation, and de-escalation in sensitive situations.
  • Experience in coaching, facilitation, change management, and guiding teams to implement solutions and organizational improvements.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills with a result-oriented approach; able to proactively identify risks and implement solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, manage time, maintain attention to detail, and apply strategic and operational business acumen.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; builds trust and positive relationships with diverse teams, inspiring confidence and optimism; maintains confidentiality and ethical standards.
  • Flexible, self-directed, and resilient in changing environments; demonstrates creativity, ongoing learning, and a commitment to organizational values.
Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $100,390.71 to $125,488.38 with a maximum of $150,586.06. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
