Course number and title: FAH287H5S European Art of the Nineteenth Century

Topic description: Surveys major developments in European art and architecture from the late eighteenth through the end of the nineteenth century, including Neoclassicism, Romanticism, Orientalism, Realism, the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, and Symbolism. Artistic responses to political change, urbanisation, capitalism, colonialism, the Academy, and the Salon will be explored as well as changing constructions of gender, race, class, and national identities through visual media.

Sessional dates of appointment: January 5 - April 6, 2026

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching a similar UTM course previously is required.
  • Experience as a sole responsibility course instructor is an asset.
Responsibilities

Description of duties: all normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course material, preparation and delivery of assignments, tests and/or exams, supervision of teaching assistants, marking of students’ work, submission of grades to university officials, and holding regular office hours.

Scheduling of guest speakers is limited to one week class session.
