We’re on the hunt for a Senior Finite Element Analysis Engineer on our Robotics & Space Operations team at our Kanata office.

With 40 years of operational experience and proven performance on the iconic Canadarm programs including Space Shuttle and International Space Station robotics and operations support, our Robotics & Space Operations team has 100% mission success in making space dreams come true.

As part of the Opto-Mechanical Team, you will analyze components and electro-mechanical systems to ensure that products meet or exceed the customer’s requirements and ensure that the mechanical solutions are reliable, cost-effective and meet product functional requirements. You will use a series of advanced software tools for 3D design and simulation to predict product behavior in space.

Role:
  • Subject matter expert in structural and thermal analysis and testing
  • Trainer and informal mentor to less experienced staff
Responsibilities:
  • Apply engineering principles to solve complex technical challenges
  • Evaluate opto-mechanical system performances at both the component and system levels via modeling and experimental methods
  • Perform structural analyses (classical hand calculations and finite element analysis)
  • Static/Quasi-static
  • Dynamic (Modal, Harmonic, Random, Shock
  • Thermal Distortion
  • Perform thermal analyses for components in vacuum
  • Steady State
  • Transient
  • Interpret analysis results and convert them to design suggestions
  • Investigate opportunities to limit testing and reduce qualification costs using FEA analysis
  • Prepare analysis reports
  • Support integration and testing (during the design and manufacturing phases)
  • Prepare test procedures
  • Conduct tests for vibration, thermal, thermos-vacuum, cryogenic and mass properties and prepare test reports
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, technologists and assembly personnel
  • Perform other engineering duties as required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience with robust mechanical component and packaging design solutions, including vibration analysis and testing, structural and thermal analysis
  • Demonstrated experience with thermal and structural analysis tools, specifically Ansys and NASTRAN
  • Knowledge of stress analysis and failure theories, including for ductile and brittle materials, fatigue, stress corrosion cracking and fracture mechanics
  • Over 8 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in military/aerospace environment testing would be an asset
  • CAD experience in NX and/or SolidWorks would be an asset
  • Experience with NASGRO would be an asset

The compensation range for this position is $105,600.00 - $145,000.00 annually. The specific compensation offered will be based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
