Description and Requirements

Lenovo is currently seeking a Senior Trade Compliance Specialist for NA trade. The NA Trade Compliance role is pivotal to ensure seamless import operation by managing U.S. Customs and Border Protection Regulations. This position is part of Lenovo’s Global Trade Compliance team. The trade compliance specialist is responsible for ensuring regulatory legal requirements in a complex and rapidly changing laws under U.S. Customs Regulations and Canadian CBSA rules.

This role manages classification (rulings), record retention, CTPAT security and trade programs, regulatory changes, training, and system oversight. With increasing trade complexities and tariffs, this role is vital to support risk mitigation, cost control, operational efficiency, and strategic advantage.

This role provides cross functional compliance guidance, critical information and insights as well as support all aspects of imports/exports regulatory compliance including but not limited to classification, tariffs, country of origin determination, customs valuation, marking, and labeling, and bond sufficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Customs Compliance
    • Ensure accurate tariff classification (HTS codes) and country of origin determination
    • Review and validate customs documentation (import declarations, bills of lading, certificates of origin, etc.)
    • Manage Section 301, Section 232, and other trade remedy duties (where applicable)
  • Security and Trade Programs
    • Manage C-TPAT program and ensure supply chain compliance and risk management
    • Oversee Free Trade Agreement (FTA) qualification (e.g., USMCA)
    • Monitor and manage customs bonds, duty recovery, and FTZ
  • Conduct internal compliance audits and support external government audits
  • Mitigate risks by implementing corrective actions for trade violations
  • Work closely with key internal and external key stakeholder teams to ensure compliance
  • Serve as the point of contact with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and regulatory agencies
  • Policy & Training
    • Develop and enforce internal trade compliance policies
    • Provide training to employees on trade compliance requirements
  • Process Improvement
  • Drive efficiency in customs clearance processes and duty optimization strategies

Basic Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in international business, Supply Chain, Customs, Law, or related field
  • Experience: 8+ years of trade compliance experience, preferably in North America
  • Certifications (preferred):
    • U.S. Customs Broker License (preferred)
    • Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) – U.S. or Canada
    • Certified Export Specialist (CES)
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of HTS and customs valuation rules
    • Familiarity with trade automation tools
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
    • Ability to manage projects and provide leadership on compliance initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of import regulations, including classification, valuation, trade agreements, duty drawback, and FTZ
  • Direct involvement in managing responses to changing tariff regimes (e.g., Section 301, Section 232, IEEPA, Product Exclusions, Exemption, and Allowances)
  • Strong experience and direct knowledge of CTPAT Security and Trade Programs
  • Data analytics to identify abnormalities and compliance gaps
  • Superior MS Office Skills: Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, and Word
