Job description

This position is needed to help with an increasing workload in capital project, emergency replacement and restoration work, asset management strategic OMA work programs, and Owners Engineer review work.

This role requires experience with the design of electrical utility substations with operating voltages from 12kV to 500kV and demonstrated experience working with utility design solutions in an electric utility environment. It requires specialized knowledge of a broad range of equipment, so the ideal candidate would have operational, design, and manufacturing experience in HVAC, standby power systems, fire protection, and plumbing.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare project documentation and deliverables in accordance with the company's project and Engineering Design Practices (i.e., evaluation reports, specifications, proposals, estimates, design basis, calculations, hazard logs, test plans).
• Prepare design work packages including scope, duration, and level of effort estimates.
• Prepare signed/sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional of Record (PoR) in accordance with EGBC and company design practices.
• Provide technical assistance and construction support in the field and undertake field reviews as required by EGBC.
• Create designs, drawings, specifications, and maintenance standards for the company's substation mechanical systems.
• Create designs, drawings, specifications, and maintenance standards for the company's Telecom mechanical systems.
• Perform other miscellaneous mechanical system tasks as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Mechanical Engineering Degree
• 8+ years of related experience
• Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.)
• Ability to provide technical directions to junior engineers
• Ability to manage design tasks including scope, schedule, and cost
• Ability to find engineering solutions that add value and reach consensus
• Strong communication skills, including verbal and technical writing in English, analytical, interpersonal, and presentation skills
• Experience in project management, including estimating, cost control, and administration

This role requires regular or occasional attendance at the company's workplace(s) and is subject to the company's Contractor Vaccination Policy, requiring all contractors to be fully vaccinated by January 10, 2022, or prior to the work start date, whichever is later.

Term: 1-year initial contract with expected extension based on workload and performance.
