We are seeking a Senior Manager, Processing, Extraction, and Packaging to lead and optimize our core post-harvest operations. Reporting to the Director of Operations, this senior leadership role will oversee the strategy, performance, and compliance of our processing, extraction, and packaging teams. You will be accountable for delivering consistent product quality, driving operational efficiency, and ensuring regulatory and safety excellence across the organization.

This is a high-impact role for a results-driven leader who thrives at the intersection of operational strategy, regulatory compliance, and team development. You will play a pivotal role in shaping Rubicon’s operational success by balancing day-to-day performance with long-term strategic growth.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Provide strategic direction and oversight across processing, extraction, and packaging operations.
  • Drive process optimization, cost reduction, and efficiency improvements through Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Monitor production metrics and leverage data-driven insights to identify performance gaps and implement corrective actions.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to enhance long-term operational performance.

Process Optimization

  • Align operational initiatives with company objectives to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and lower costs.
  • Prioritize process improvements using ROI, cost-benefit analysis, and alignment with long-term strategic goals.
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration with R&D, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Quality to ensure seamless integration of improvements.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement by engaging employees at all levels to propose and implement innovations.

Quality Assurance

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory and industry quality standards.
  • Lead risk assessments, compliance audits, and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Establish and enforce robust quality control protocols from raw material inspection through final packaging.
  • Oversee testing, inspections, and documentation to maintain audit readiness and guarantee consistent product quality.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team of managers, supervisors, and technicians.
  • Cultivate leadership within the team by empowering supervisors to take greater ownership and accountability.
  • Conduct fair, data-driven performance evaluations; establish clear development plans to support both personal and organizational growth.
  • Build a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning across all operations.

Regulatory Compliance and Safety

  • Oversee compliance with federal, provincial, and local cannabis regulations.
  • Continuously monitor regulatory changes and ensure proactive team training and adaptation.
  • Lead workplace safety initiatives by developing, implementing, and continuously improving safety programs.
  • Foster a proactive safety culture where employees actively engage in risk identification and prevention.
  • Ensure audit and reporting systems are accurate, transparent, and aligned with compliance requirements.

Resource and Inventory Management

  • Develop and implement strategies for long-term resource and inventory planning.
  • Partner with procurement, production, and logistics to forecast needs and maintain optimal inventory levels.
  • Lead preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime, extend equipment life, and ensure operational reliability.
  • Drive adoption of automation and new technologies to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Optimize workforce planning by balancing staffing with production demand while minimizing costs and waste.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 8+ years of progressive leadership experience in manufacturing, processing, food, pharmaceuticals, or cannabis industries.
  • Strong background in process optimization, Lean, or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Proven track record of leading multi-functional operations in a regulated environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of quality assurance, compliance, and health & safety standards.
  • Exceptional leadership and people development skills, with experience managing large operational teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a data-driven decision-making approach.
  • Post-secondary education in engineering, operations management, life sciences, or a related field (MBA or equivalent an asset).
