Reporting to the CEO, the Senior Manager of Marketing, is responsible for the organization’s marketing and communication strategies.The Senior Marketing Manager analyzes the market and destination competitors, prepares annual marketing plans and budgets, and creates a calendar of campaigns and events.The Senior Manager will understand the importance of a fully integrated marketing strategy, tactics, campaigns and analysis.The Senior Manager will work in collaboration with the Director of Business Development and industry partners.

Responsibilities:

Marketing
  • Management of marketing priority areas, schedules and deadlines;
  • Implementation of a marketing strategy for the destination; this strategy developed in concert with the senior executive, involves secondary and primary research; consultation with provincial marketing agencies (NL Tourism), local tourism industry partners and regional and national organizations;
  • Development of annual marketing plans working closely with industry partners, management and with creative and content resources;
  • Developing and managing marketing budgets and monitoring progress; achieving financial objectives by preparing annual budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances and initiating corrective action;
  • Understanding key marketing performance metrics and tracking tools to provide market research, forecasts, competitive analyses, campaign results and consumer trends in order to translate results into actionable insights for the marketing team
  • Stewardship of the DSJ/destination brand;
  • Executing advertising plan (digital and print), social media, joint marketing agreements and digital marketing campaigns;
  • Overseeing social media strategy and implementation;
  • Coordination and liaison with marketing agency, consultants and other suppliers; point person as production manager
  • Working closely with the organization’s sales team to ensure that they are equipped with appropriate tools, materials and presentations;
  • Staying up to date on latest marketing trends;
  • Collaborating and partnering with NL Tourism and other DMOs on marketing initiatives and programs; and
  • Managing all media inquiries.
Destination Development & Partnerships
  • Coordination and liaison with NL Tourism on implementation of Vision Master Action Plan.
  • Sitting as member of the steering committee for the Northeast Avalon Destination Development Plan (NEADP);
  • Collaborating with other DMOs on marketing, destination development, promoting best practices in quality assurance and industry professional development and training;
  • Working with tourism operators, private industry and natural and cultural attractions, the City of St. John’s, TCAR, HNL and other stakeholders to identify and develop unique, remarkable and immersive experiences for the visitor to the St. John’s region;
  • Development and execution of a communications plan to engage, recruit and retain industry partners;
  • Supporting DSJ partners/members through DSJ sales and marketing activities; and
  • Supporting DSJ partners/members in pursuing other marketing or experience development opportunities that will drive increased visibility and visitation to all partner sites and establishments.

  • Data Analyses:The role calls for continual analysis of market trends and the positioning of competitors.This analysis provides the foundation for marketing strategies.The development of KPIs, and measurement of organizational success, is a critical component of informing and adjusting that strategy
  • Fiscal Management: The Senior Manager will develop, oversee and manage the annual marketing budget and will use innovation and creativity in leveraging additional resources where possible.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, communications, hospitality or a related field
  • Successful track record in senior marketing roles and in creating marketing campaigns, particularly digital marketing campaigns within the industry that engage, inform and motivate
  • Minimum 5-7 years of applicable experience
  • Experience in utilization of various social media platforms for marketing including organic social media and paid advertising.Experience in development, creation and production of digital marketing campaigns and utilizing performance metrics and tracking tools to measure performance and inform future marketing. Solid knowledge of website and marketing analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Hootsuite, web trends etc.)Demonstrated experience in leading and managing SEO/SEM, email, social media and/or display advertising campaigns
  • Demonstrated experience in building partner relationships
  • Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Confident, driven and dynamic leader
  • Proven ability to plan and manage budgets
