The successful candidate will be a designated accountant or CPA in-progress, public practice career-focused individual who is excited to join a growth-oriented, entrepreneurial firm wanting to further develop their accounting and taxation skills. The available Senior Accountant position will be a progressive position with opportunities for professional development and advancement.

What you will be doing:

  • Conduct compilation, review, audit, bookkeeping and tax engagements.

  • Prepare financial statements and corresponding notes.

  • Prepare and/or review personal and corporate tax returns.

  • Prepare year-end tax forms (T4s and T5s).

  • Apply knowledge of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprise (ASPE).

  • Investigate and correct discrepancies/ irregularities in financial entries, documents and reports.

  • Respond to client questions and queries.

  • Raise identified technical issues with manager or engagement partner.

  • Update manager or engagement partner on the progress of engagements.

  • Prepare professional correspondence, technical reports, client summaries and presentations outlining findings, facts and highlights resulting from the client engagement.

  • Collaborate with client engagement team prior to commencement of client work to discuss roles and responsibilities, risk areas, materiality and deadlines.

  • Work with accounting software and provide support to clients.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with client management.

  • Develop a thorough understanding of their services, businesses and industry.

  • Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes.

  • Raise awareness of this firm in the community.

  • Lead engagement teams while coaching and mentoring junior team members.

What you must have:

  • CPA designation in-progress, passed CFE or CPA designated

  • Sound knowledge of the CPA Canada Handbook, review procedures, and tax compliance.

  • 1+ years’ experience in public accounting with public company client experience.

  • Familiar with CaseWare, Microsoft Office, and Tax Prep.

  • An innovative thinker, comfortable in a team and client-focused environment.

  • Self-starter, able to work independently.

  • Strong interpersonal, technical, and communication skills, written and verbal.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and work under pressure.

  • Strong commitment to excellence and attention to detail.

  • Able to interact with clients, co-workers, Managers, and Partners.

  • Able to prioritize workloads, meet deadlines and work under pressure.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
