Position Title: Senior Accountant

Reports To: Controller

Position Status: Full-Time

Position Category: Permanent

Location: Calgary, Alberta

Work Hours: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm (40 hours/week) In-office

Expected Start Date: After January 10, 2025

WHATS THE BIG IDEA?

As our Senior Accountant, you will be at the heart of our numbers game—keeping financial reporting on point, managing compliance with regulations and ensuring financial integrity across the organization. Your day will involve mastering cash flows, managing monthly working papers, analyzing departmental variances and providing auditors with meticulous documentation.

HOW WE WORK

We operate as trusted advisors, delivering short-term lending solutions in a fast-paced, proactive office environment. This role will contribute to risk and compliance management, working closely with peers across the firm.

HOW DO YOU FIT IN?
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, BBA or related field.
  • Working towards an accounting designation.
  • Minimum two years of industry or related accounting experience.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience with QuickBooks and other small-business accounting systems is an asset.
  • Experience with corporate banking systems and electronic fund transactions is an asset.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Financial Reporting (75%)

  • Complete daily, monthly, quarterly and annual accounting.
  • Manage weekly cash management activities.
  • File monthly and quarterly GST and tax reports.
  • Conduct monthly departmental variance analysis and disbursement to departments.
  • Complete monthly ASC reporting requirements.
  • Prepare month-end schedules, reconciliations and TMO related reports.
  • Manage and account for subsidiary Percent Equity LP.
  • Assist in preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
  • Support external audits by providing required documentation.
  • Perform other ad-hoc financial reporting as needed.

Compliance (15%)

  • Ensure compliance with Real Estate Act, Privacy Act, Securities Act, Business Corporations Act, Fair Trading Act and other applicable regulations.
  • Maintain IFRS compliance in our reporting.
  • Assist in maintaining internal controls and corporate policy adherence.
  • Support accounting and reporting for CHMIC related companies (Charitable Foundation of the Family, Percent Equity LP, and Simplicity Asset Management).

General Administrative Activities (10%)

  • Develop accounting processes and procedures.
  • Collaborate with peers and other departments.
  • Assist and coordinate group activities.
