Job description

A&W Restaurants in Terrace, BC, is looking for a permanent full-time Assistant Manager to start immediately.

Compensation Starting: $47,750 , depending upon experience and/or completion of in-house training.

ROLE

The Assistant Manager works together with the Manager, supervising overall shift and daily operations of the restaurant. The Assistant Manager is responsible for operating the restaurant according to A&W Standards, Provincial WCB, and Employment and Health regulations on a daily basis and would be able to continue smooth operations of the restaurant in the absence of the Manager. The Assistant Manager will be scheduled in positions, working ‘hands‑on’ alongside the team members.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Operations
  • Balance key goals – high quality, speed of service and cost control through effective management of the operating system
  • Maintain Provincial WCB and A&W standards daily; recognize areas for improvement and act where improvement is needed
  • Schedule staff, including self, and assign shift roles and responsibilities
  • Knowledge of workplace climate goals and ensuring they are practiced daily
Human Resources
  • Train, develop, confront poor performance
  • Ensure staff safety and a healthy, motivating work environment applying daily workplace climate goals
  • Ensure Employment regulations are maintained on a daily basis
  • Document critical incidents and report them to key individuals
  • Complete daily, weekly, and period accounting administration as directed by the manager
  • Manage inventory control, ordering, cost control and weekly inventory counts as directed by the manager
  • Apply cash policies and food cost management principles
Customers
  • Ensure that cleanliness standards and safe food handling practices are met
  • Ensure high level of service to guests through efficient preparation, stocking, and staff positioning
  • Assist Manager with local store marketing
  • Manage accidents or complaints, implementing service recovery program
  • Ensure team's appearance is up to standard
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 3 years experience in a restaurant supervisory role
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven leadership
  • Expertise in all restaurant positions
  • Complete knowledge of restaurant Operating Systems and Operating Standards
  • High interest in developing others
  • Ability to do accounting and manage administrative aspects of the operation
PREFERRED SKILLS
  • Acceptable oral and written English communication skills
  • Acceptable mathematical skills
  • Ability to train and coach others in a ‘hands‑on’ approach; imparting knowledge
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to lead meetings

  • Standing and walking for extended periods.
