Qualifications

Job description

At OIB Child and Youth Services we believe that all children and youth should have the opportunity to live in a safe and nurturing environment. We provide all-inclusive care in a residential setting to children ranging in age from 6-12 years old. Staff at OIB provide a high level of care and support impacting the development and well-being of the youth in our homes.

Role Overview:

Under the direction of the Executive Director of OIB, the House Manager oversees the operation of one of our residential homes and assigned staff. Our House Manager provides direction and supervision to staff, maintaining consistent standards to ensure services and related programs align with OIB policies and procedures.

The House Manager must collaborate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders. This role involves working directly with residents in their day-to-day activities and supporting the creation of individual care plans tailored to each child's specific needs.

The ideal candidate brings years of managerial or supervisory experience, adaptability, a proactive approach, and a strong sense of ownership, motivated by the challenge of navigating the unpredictable nature of managing an around-the-clock childcare home.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and management in the delivery of residential care for children
  • Liaise with Upper Management and External Agencies regarding ongoing childcare and learning plans
  • Supervise, train, orient, mentor and evaluate a diverse team of up to 10 House staff
  • Approve, coordinate, and manage work schedules, and assigned duties
  • Plan, direct, monitor and evaluate the group home program and assigned staff
  • Assist with the hiring of new staff and addressing issues as they arise (disciplinary, attendance management, etc.)
  • Informing the Directors of any current or anticipated issues that could impact the operation of the organization
  • Evaluate staff and ensure appropriate staffing needs are met as per guidelines
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of the house budget
  • Ensure accuracy, confidentiality and safekeeping of client records
  • Understand and implement OIB Policy and Standard Operating Procedures
  • Participate in the creation and implementation of meal plans for residents in care

Education, Training and Qualifications:

Post-secondary education in Human Services i.e. Community, Family and Child Services, Mental Health, Early Childhood Education or equivalent combination of education, training and experience with a combination of Leadership and Management experience.

  • At least 2 years of experience in a Supervisory role or Related experience
  • Excellent supervisory, planning, organization, problem-solving, decision making, inter-personal and leadership skills
  • Sound knowledge of risk assessments, crisis management and de-escalation skills
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure
  • Clear criminal and background check
  • Office computer literacy skills such as Office 365
  • Valid British Columbia Class 5 driver's license
  • Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training
  • Food Safe Level 1
  • Negative TB Test
