Overview

Sunnybrook Research Institute is one of Canada's Top 10 Research Hospitals. It is developing innovations in care for the more than 1.3 million patients the hospital cares for annually. Sunnybrook Research Institute is the research enterprise of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, a teaching hospital fully affiliated with the University of Toronto. Research spans three Toronto-based campuses, eight programs and three scientific platforms. The institute aims to understand and prevent disease, and to develop treatments that enhance and extend life, with a vision to invent the future of health care. Each year, about $100 million is spent on research across 500,000 square feet, including in the world’s first Centre for Research in Image-Guided Therapeutics. In collaboration with the Radiation Therapy Department at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, the Tran Lab is seeking an enthusiastic, energetic, and experienced individual to work in a fast-paced clinical research environment in the Odette Cancer Centre. The successful incumbent will work directly with the Principal Investigator and the clinical research team to execute a qualitative research study. They will be responsible for executing the study protocol including but not limited to obtaining informed consent and conducting qualitative interviews with participants who are either patients receiving radiation therapy or their caregivers.

Responsibilities
  • Recruit participants by coordinating with clinicians in the patient’s circle of care and obtain informed consent to participate in the study
  • Maintain all study related records
  • Coordinate with participants to schedule study interview date and time
  • Conduct semi-structured interviews with participants who are either patients undergoing radiation treatments or their caregivers
  • Transcribe the recorded interviews and assist in the coding and thematic analysis of transcriptions
Qualifications
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field or equivalent (MSc degree is an asset).
  • At least 2+ years of research support experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience conducting qualitative research is considered an asset.
  • Understanding of project management processes and methodology.
  • Computer proficiency including advanced skills with MS Office applications is required.
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills are required.
