Job summary

A healthcare facility in Ontario is seeking a Laboratory Technologist to perform laboratory tests, gather specimens, and report results under the guidelines of CMLTO. Responsibilities include conducting procedures in Cytology and Histology, ensuring compliance with hospital policies, and communicating effectively with Patient Care Providers. Candidates must hold a Diagnostic Cytology certificate and be registered by CMLTO. Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills are essential. This is a full-time role located in Sault Ste. Marie.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a post secondary Diagnostic Cytology certificate program from a recognized institution.
  • Registered by CMLTO in good standing.
  • Minimum one-year clinical training in an approved program.

Job description
Purpose Of Position

To perform laboratory tests, collect specimens and report results to Patient Care Providers, with interpretation as required within the parameters as defined by the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) and any other applicable regulatory bodies.

Duties
  • Perform laboratory procedures as indicated in department manuals, following Hospital and Laboratory Policies.
  • Work in two laboratory subsections, i.e. Cytology and Histology.
  • Remain current in laboratory medicine and participate in available continuing education programs as required by the CMLTO.
  • Communicate with Patient Care Providers on laboratory matters and exercise independent judgement in specimen procurement, specimen analysis, reporting and interpretation of findings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Completion of a post secondary Diagnostic Cytology certificate program from a recognized institution.
  • Registered by the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario in good standing.
Experience
  • Minimum acceptable experience in a training program approved by Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSML), which includes a one-year clinical training.
Skills/Ability
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently as a team member in a fast paced environment in stressful situations.
  • Customer service, interpersonal and telephone skills.
  • Computer literacy in a Microsoft environment.
  • Ability to maintain successful working relationships with the interdisciplinary team to achieve positive patient outcomes.

  • Knowledge of sterile tissue culture conditions as required by assigned area.
