Permanent and temporary employees working in excess of one year whose work sites are above the 57th parallel are eligible for an annual reimbursement of personal travel expenses up to $1,235 per year. Eligible employees are reimbursed for one round trip per calendar year to any destination within Alberta. Travel must originate from a community above the 57th parallel and cannot be carried over.

Location: Fort Vermilion, Alberta — situated along the Peace River in Mackenzie County. Fort Vermilion offers scenic wilderness, growth, and development and is located near the BC and NT borders. New graduates and international applicants with valid work visas are welcome to apply.

Responsibilities
  • Assess emergency scenes and patients and transport ill or injured patients from scenes and between facilities.
  • Operate ambulances or other EMS transportation modes; provide treatment including minor medications, BLS airway adjuncts, and semi-automated defibrillation.
  • Lead the BLS crew in delivering clinical care during transport or at emergency scenes.
  • Ensure EMS vehicles are properly stocked and equipped.
  • Work environment involves exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, moving traffic, and industrial/agricultural equipment; travel in all weather conditions and to remote locations.
  • Handle physically demanding tasks including lifting up to 105 lbs and prolonged kneeling, bending, twisting, and carrying.
Required Qualifications
  • Non-restricted registration in good standing with the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACOP) as a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP).
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS/CPR) certification.
  • Valid Class 4 Alberta Operator License or equivalent and a five-year driver abstract current within six months with no more than six demerits.
  • Proof of successful completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test via Lifemark (no more than six months prior to application if not currently in a clinical AHS EMS position).
  • Ability to perform full operational duties as of start date; Lifemark verification may be requested.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Preference given to applicants with EMS experience in metro, suburban, rural, or interfacility settings and in other health care or public safety roles.
  • Completion of additional post-secondary programs is advantageous and will be considered during the selection process; applicants must provide proof of post-secondary education credentials.
