Job description

DEPARTMENT: WOMEN & CHILD CARE (PERINATAL FOCUS)

POSITION LOCATION: OWEN SOUND

UNION AFFILIATION: ONA

STATUS: PART-TIME

REASON TO POST: DIRECT REPLACEMENT

WAGE RATE: $40.24 - $57.68

Reporting to the Manager, Woman and Child Care, the Registered Nurse is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The RN is responsible for directing and coordinating all nursing care for labour and birth patients, postpartum mother baby dyads and gynaecological patients based on established clinical nursing practice standards. The RN serves in the Resource Nurse role when oriented and as directed. The RN utilizes knowledge of patient’s age and cultural diversity into the provision of patient care.

Skills/Abilities/Qualifications
Required
  • Ontario College of Nurses registration or eligibility
  • Competency in Labour & Delivery. Must be able to be independent in L&D within 6 months.
  • PACU Course within 1 year
  • Certified in NRP
  • Current certification in the following skills or commitment to completed within 1 year:
    • Fetal Health Surveillance
    • Breastfeeding Certificate
    • The first segment of a normal Mother/Baby Perinatal Course
    • Vaginal Examinations
    • Epidural Catheter Care for L & D
    • Venipunctures to start and IV on Neonates, Children and Adults
    • Medications below the drip chamber
    • Experience caring for patients with P.C.A.
  • Provides and promotes family-centered care
  • Knowledge of Baby Friendly Initiative and ability to work within guidelines to maintain BFI status
  • Leadership, problem-solving, decision-making and organizational skills
  • Interviewing and patient assessment skills
  • Willingness to escort high risk obstetrical patients via Ambulance Services
  • Willing and able to take call, and all shifts
  • Willingness to orient to other unit specialties
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills
  • Recent mother/baby dyad care within 5 years
  • Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Interest and experience in patient education and health promotion
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and continuing education
  • Willing to complete AWHONN Perinatal orientation program OR complete High Risk Obstetrics course within a maximum of 2 years
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records
  • Knowledge of and adherence to Brightshores ‘CARE’ Behaviours (Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Excellence) and ‘LEAD’ Competencies (Lead by example, Empower, Achieve results, Develop others) and a commitment to a safe workplace free of violence and harassment
