A leading healthcare provider in Canada is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) on a part-time basis at its acute surgical unit. As an RN, you will deliver comprehensive patient care and participate in quality improvement initiatives alongside a multidisciplinary team. Ideal candidates will have completed an accredited nursing program, be registered with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta, and possess strong assessment and organizational skills. This position offers competitive pay ranging from $39.58 to $59.21 per hour, depending on qualifications.
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive patient and family-centered care on an acute surgical unit in accordance with the UAH and AHS policy and procedures. 3F3 is an 18+ bed unit providing care to Orthopedic and General Surgery patients received from OR, ED, ICU and from home/clinics. Decisions are made in a collaborative multidisciplinary team environment. The RN participates in quality improvement initiatives and may serve as charge nurse as required. The RN demonstrates excellent assessment, documentation, clinical, organizational and patient care skills. Proficiency at medication administration calculations is required.
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure safety and well-being. You will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, and you will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family-centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. Note: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable RN rate per UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii).
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five years, you must complete the following free courses: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification.

Successful candidate must pass the medication calculation exam (80% score) provided by the surgery program within 14 days of orientation. Medication Calculation exam is provided during orientation or scheduled by the CNE. Candidate has 3 attempts within the 2-week orientation period. Must work well in a team and contribute to patient planning processes. Excellent communication, compassionate attitude, attention to detail. Strong interpersonal, problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Preference given to candidates with more than 2 years of recent Ortho/General Surgery experience. Must be able to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment including standing, walking, lifting, pushing/pulling 25-50 lbs, and reaching for patients across BMI ranges. Must not have current activity restrictions (pulling, pushing, reaching, bending).
Ability to communicate findings concisely in writing and verbally, handle stressful situations, prioritize complex patient care needs, and manage workload with frequent interruptions. Demonstrated initiative, reliability, flexibility and critical thinking. Maintain collaborative relationships in a multidisciplinary environment. Strong patient teaching skills.
