Job summary

A leading mental health facility in Ottawa is seeking qualified nurses to provide inpatient and outpatient services for individuals facing substance use and mental health disorders. Candidates should have current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario and strong communication and interpersonal skills. Qualifications

Job description
Substance Use and Concurrent Disorders

This program provides inpatient and outpatient services for individuals dealing with both substance use and mental health conditions (concurrent disorders). Services are tailored to each client’s goals and include self-referrals, making care more accessible.

Qualifications
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Up to 3 months Nursing Experience
  • Knowledge of mental health/addiction issues
  • Clear understanding of MHA and relevant legislation
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge and skill in psychiatric nursing practice as articulated in the Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice.
  • Knowledge of mental health/addiction issues with specific knowledge about physical/medical compilations related to mental health and addictions
  • Able to meet the standards of nursing practice of the College of Nurses
  • CPR certification within the last 12 months (BCLS at a minimum)
  • Evidence of continuing professional education
  • Effective verbal and written communications skills
  • Effective interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Problem solving, leadership and management skills in responding to complex and rapidly changing situations
  • Sensitivity, skills and experience working with diverse individuals and communities
  • English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading comprehension and written expression. French level A- is mandatory in oral expression and written expression.
Preferred Qualifications
  • BSc Nursing
  • Certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing
  • Experience in Mental Health and/or addictions
  • Membership and active participation in a professional nursing organization (RNAO)
  • Certification in Substance Use and Concurrent Disorders
  • Experience working with individuals with substance use disorders
  • Knowledge of medical detox, withdrawal management, and opioid therapy protocols and medications
  • Experience identifying the signs of symptoms of withdrawal and intoxications from alcohol, opioid and other substances
