Responsibilities

The Locum Program addresses staffing needs in the Eastern Zone through short-term assignments. Reporting to the Site Lead / Health Services Manager, the Registered Nurse provides nursing care based on the nursing process and therapeutic relationships, aiming to help clients attain or maintain optimal health. The RN is responsible for planning and delivering nursing care, practicing within CRNNS standards and the CNA Code of Ethics, providing leadership, and working collaboratively with colleagues and other health professionals.

Please note: You may work at various rural facilities within the Eastern Zone, including Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital, Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Sacred Heart Hospital, Eastern Memorial Hospital, Guysborough Memorial Hospital, Strait Richmond Hospital, and St. Mary’s Hospital.

About You

We are interested if you have the following qualifications, which may vary depending on the facility and area of need:

Medical/Surgical Areas:
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN)
  • Minimum 1 year emergency nursing experience
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle
  • Current RQI BLS or BLS-C certification
  • Current RQI ALS or ACLS certification (asset)
  • Experience in rural settings (asset)
  • Knowledge of other languages, especially French (asset)
Emergency Department Areas:
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure with NSCN
  • Minimum 3 years emergency nursing experience
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle
  • CTAS certification
  • EPICC Foundations or TNCC certification
  • Current RQI BLS and ALS certifications
  • PALS or equivalent certifications
  • Trauma course certification (EPICC Trauma or TNCC)
  • Emergency or Critical Care Nursing Program (asset)
  • ENC Certification (asset)
  • At least 5 years medical/surgical experience with good assessment skills (if above not available)
  • Knowledge of other languages, especially French (asset)

Hours
  • Full-time, 75 hours bi-weekly
  • Assignments last 3 to 6 months
  • Shifts include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
Compensation and Benefits

$40.55 - $49.99 hourly, plus a shift premium of $6.00/hour for all hours worked during the assignment. Compensation increases with experience, e.g., $51.74 with 25 years of RN experience.
