Younker 5 is a 22-bed Renal, Transplant, and Urology unit specializing in medical-surgical patients. We have the only transplant center in Central Iowa and take pride in caring for this specific patient population. You will have the opportunity to become transplant certified after 12 months of hire if you wish through the American Board of Transplant Certification. Our team is committed to offering a multidisciplinary, patient-centered approach to achieve the best patient outcomes and safe discharge plans.

Responsibilities

Applications are accepted year-round, but we encourage you to apply during your last semester of nursing school. Start dates depend on licensure, onboarding, unit availability, and your personal preference.

All newly licensed RNs with less than six months of acute RN experience must participate in the RN Residency program. Newly licensed nurses should apply for the Registered Nurse Residency.

Responsibilities include functioning as a Registered Nurse as defined in Iowa Nursing Regulations and Practice Act, providing nursing care, and maintaining a practice environment aligned with the ANA Code for Nurses, the Philosophy of Nursing at UnityPoint Health-Des Moines, and in collaboration with other caregivers.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Newly licensed nurse within the last 6 months or less than 6 months of acute RN experience.
  • Current licensure in good standing as a Registered Nurse in Iowa.
  • Completion of residency program within the first 12 months of employment.
  • Department of Labor Level III Medium Work: exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
