Powell 5 is a 25-bed Neurosurgical, Trauma and Orthopedics unit providing services to inpatients and short-term observation patients. Powell 5 is an integral part of the Level 1 Trauma program and holds The Blue Distinction for the care we give patients with total hip and total knee replacements. Our team is committed to a multidisciplinary approach to patient-centered care involving achieving best patient outcomes and safe discharge plans. Responsibilities

Applications are accepted year-round, but we encourage you to apply during your last semester of nursing school. Start dates depend on licensure, onboarding, unit availability, and your personal preference.

All newly licensed RNs with less than six months of acute RN experience at the time of application are required to participate in the RN Residency program. Newly licensed nurses must apply for the Registered Nurse Residency position.

Responsibilities include functioning as a Registered Nurse as defined in Iowa Nursing Regulations and Practice Act, providing nursing care for patients and families, and maintaining a practice environment aligned with the ANA Code for Nurses, the Philosophy of Nursing at UnityPoint Health-Des Moines, within the Professional Nurse Practice Model, in collaboration with other caregivers. Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Newly licensed nurse within the last 6 months or with less than 6 months of acute RN experience.
  • Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa.
  • Completion of residency program within the first 12 months of employment.
  • Department of Labor Level III Medium Work: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
