Overview :

This member of the Canadian Mental Health Association works alongside a team of professionals focusing on safety, stability, and support for individuals in a mental health crisis who are in contact with police but not suitable for incarceration or hospitalization. The team includes a multidisciplinary group from the Canadian Mental Health Association, Kenora Branch, or other community agencies. Responsibilities include assessing clients' physical health needs, making referrals, managing medication in conjunction with practitioners, and providing treatment, rehabilitation, and support services across various programs.

The Registered Nurse / Registered Practical Nurse will coordinate shift management with colleagues and report to the Safe Bed Program Team Lead and CEO.

Qualifications :
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Knowledge of mental health issues and treatment modalities
  • Assessment/Evaluation skills
  • Knowledge of community resources and agencies
  • Ability to work independently and in teams
  • Conflict and crisis management skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Cultural competence
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Criminal Records Check
  • CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain
Duties :
  • Adhere to all policies of the CMHA Kenora Branch
  • Maintain confidentiality of all records and information
  • Update client and data files as per policies
  • Maintain professional qualifications and participate in ongoing training
  • Coordinate shift management
  • On-call from Monday to Friday evenings and weekends/holidays; coverage coordinated internally during absences
  • Provide crisis intervention and advocacy
  • Administer medication and provide medical services under supervision
  • Develop and monitor client treatment plans including psychopharmacological interventions
  • Manage pharmaceuticals and supplies
  • Provide case management and support within team and community settings
  • Assess client needs and develop recovery plans
  • Participate in team and committee meetings
  • Ensure a safe environment following health and safety regulations
  • Support orientation and safety training for staff
  • Participate in administrative functions and self-care
  • Perform other duties as assigned
