Position: Registered Nurse - Psychosis Recovery and Treatment Unit 7

Location: McCain Complex Care and Recovery Building

Responsibilities
  • Provide client-centered psychiatric and general nursing care as part of an inter-professional team.
  • Ensure safety and security of the client care environment.
  • Practice in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario standards, Canadian Standards for Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing, CAMH Practice Model of Care, CAMH policies and procedures, and relevant legislation.
  • Using a primary nursing model, perform ongoing assessments and develop, implement, and evaluate the inter-professional plan of client care for clients with schizophrenia.
  • Liaise with other services in the Clinical Care Program and community agencies to coordinate care.
  • Work with clients from diverse populations; contribute to program development; provide education support and supervision to students; participate in program research activities.
  • Make behavioural observations and assessments (mental status and physical), monitor responses to interventions, and document communications with team members.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in crisis intervention, psychosocial rehabilitation, severe and persistent mental illness, and schizophrenia; contribute to interdisciplinary client-centered care plans.
  • Support a healthy, diverse, and compliant workplace and work in alignment with regulatory requirements.
  • Work 12-hour shifts with weekend rotations; located at the Queen Street Site.
Qualifications
  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Current BCLS (CPR) certificate.
  • Preference given to candidates who possess or are pursuing a B.Sc.N and CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to develop Nurse-Client therapeutic relationships within a collaborative, diverse inter-professional team.
  • Effective leadership, decision-making, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring prevention and management of disturbed behaviour.
  • Psychiatric nursing experience with mental illness and/or addictions is an asset.
  • Ability to work with clients from diverse cultural and social backgrounds; computer literacy.
  • Bilingualism (French/English) or proficiency in a second language is an asset.
Notes

Part-time, temporary (12 months) position is a 0.6 commitment and may change per the collective agreement. Additional hours may be available based on operational needs. This position is part of the ONA Bargaining Unit.
