Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager of The Family Birthing Centre, the successful applicant will be responsible for providing evidenced-based, comprehensive, safe, effective and ethical nursing care to all clients in the labour and delivery and postpartum units of the hospital.
Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care in the labour, delivery and postpartum units in accordance with professional standards and hospital policies.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, ethical, and patient-centered care.
- Participate in ongoing infection prevention and control measures and use appropriate PPE.
- Demonstrate commitment to continuing education and professionalism in nursing.
- Coach, teach and mentor colleagues and students; establish and maintain relationships with external partners.
Mandatory Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
- Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
- Current (2 years) experience in labour / birthing or recovery
- Neonatal Resuscitation Programme (NRP) or Neonatal Resuscitation Provider Certificate
- Fetal Health Surveillance in Labour certificate
- Perinatal Certificate
- Breastfeeding Certificate or Board Certified Lactation Consultant
- Able to perform venipuncture and IV starts
- Proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 or approved accommodation as per provincial directive
- Excellent patient assessment skills
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with a teamwork approach
- Self-directed with the ability to work independently and within an interprofessional team
- Commitment to continuing education and professionalism in nursing
- Creative problem solver with a patient-focused approach
- Critical thinking, multitasking and priority setting in a changing environment
- Negotiation and conflict resolution skills

Preferred Qualifications
- High Risk Obstetrical Certificate
- ALARM certificate
- Other OB-related certificates
