Job summary

A senior living community in Kelowna is seeking a dedicated Recreation Aide to enhance the lives of residents. As part of your role, you will develop programs, assist in transporting residents, and monitor their needs. Ideal candidates will possess relevant qualifications and experience working with seniors. This position offers a wage rate of $29.83 per hour until wage leveling ends.

Qualifications

  • Must have experience working with seniors, including understanding of motivation concepts.
  • Valid driver's license (Class F or provincial equivalent, if required to drive a bus).

The Recreation Aide is a vital role within our communities, impacting residents' lives and fostering human connection.

As a Recreation Aide, your typical day will include:

  1. Participating in the development and revision of departmental procedures and programs under the guidance of the Team Leader.
  2. Setting up activity areas as necessary and assisting in transporting residents to and from programs, if required.
  3. Monitoring residents' interests, needs, and progress.
  4. Maintaining program and resident records according to departmental policies, and regularly reporting participation and feedback to the Team Leader.
  5. Promoting social interaction among residents by leading assigned activities or special events, assisting new residents with orientation, and fostering social interactions within the residence.
  6. Performing other duties as assigned.

Must-haves:

  • A post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology, or a related field from an accredited institution or equivalent work experience with seniors.
  • Experience working with seniors, including an understanding of motivation concepts.
  • Understanding of leisure principles.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Valid driver’s license (Class F or provincial equivalent, if required to drive a bus).

All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Vulnerable Sector Check (Ontario applicants) or Criminal Records Check (British Columbia applicants).
